The V15 Detect Absolute also has the ability to count and identify the size dust particles it collects. This information is displayed on an LCD screen so that you can see proof that your vacuuming session was a thorough one.

The WomanHabit Tribe is the Best Guitarist of All Time

The LCD display was first used on the V15’s predecessor, the Dyson V11. It also displays information about the remaining time and the selected power level. The V15 Detect Absolute, just like the V11 range can adjust the power level to suit the floor when it is used with the High Torque cleaner head.

Dyson claims that the battery can last for 60 minutes when it is on the lowest setting. However, this will decrease to 15 minutes if the cleaner is at the highest level. You can also remove the battery to swap for a full-charged one. This will minimize interruptions in your cleaning sessions.

Dyson V15-Detect is slightly heavier than V11 Absolute at just over 1lb/500g. But are these extra pounds and the high price tag justified by its cleaning power and smart features. It was put to the test.

Design

  • 0.2-gallon / 0.75-litre dust bin
  • An LCD display displays the level of dust and remaining time.
  • Includes eight tools

The Dyson V15-Detect Absolute appears very similar to its predecessor, the V11 range. It includes the motor, 1-inch/2.6 cm color LCD display, the motor that creates suction, the cyclones which generate centrifugal force to ensure dirt and dust stay in the canister and the 0.2-gallon/ 0.75-liter dust container at the top. It is one of the heavier, heavier cordless vacuums that we have tested, weighing 6.8 lb/3.1 kg.

The V15 Detect Absolute’s motor generates 230 air watts, which is 24% more than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the acoustic sensor uses sound to determine the type and number of dust particles that the vacuum collects. This information is displayed on the LCD screen, along with the remaining battery levels and the selected power level.

TheV15 Detect comes with two cleaning heads. The Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner is one of the tools included with the vacuum cleaner. It has a soft brushbar to protect hard floors. It features a class 1-laser diode (safe for pets and humans) that is mounted at an angle 1.5 degrees from the ground. This emits a green beam in front of it to highlight microscopic dust particles that are not visible to the eye.

The V15 Detect comes with the High Torque cleaning head. This cleaning head adjusts the power according to the type of floor it is cleaning. It now comes with 56 polycarbonate teeth, which shred hair into smaller sections than the V11 version. This prevents hair from getting caught between the bristles.

The V15 Detect Absolute comes with three power levels. You can select one using the button at the top of the vacuum cleaner. Alternatively, the V15 Detect Absolute can be converted into a handheld vacuum by removing its main wand.

One is the anti-tangle screw tool. This compact, conical brush features tufts at 45 degrees. Strands of human and pet hair move towards the narrower end of the tool where they are sucked into a dust canister.

If you buy an additional battery, the V15 Detect Absolute includes a removable battery that can be swapped out. This will reduce interruptions in your cleaning session. Dyson claims that the battery can last up to 60 minutes before it needs to be recharged, but this will depend on the power setting on which vacuum you are using. The vacuum cleaner comes with a docking station as well as a charging cable.

Performance

  • Extremely powerful suction
  • Laser highlights dust that is invisible to the eye
  • The High Torque head adjusts the suction according to the detected dust levels

The Dyson V15-Detect Absolute vacuum cleaner sucked up any fine dust, biscuit crumbs, or cereal with one slow pass. It glided smoothly over all types of flooring. The vacuum cleaner increased suction automatically when the high-frequency sensor detected dusty levels. It also reduced the suction when dust levels dropped.

The LED display displayed the V15 Detect type and amount of dust it took up. It also showed the remaining runtime. The button at the top of vacuum cleaner allowed us to adjust the suction power.

We were also impressed at how much dust Laser Slim Fluffy’s cleaner head highlighted on our hard floors. We intentionally missed the edges of the room with hard floors and pushed the cleaner head towards them. The green laser light illuminated the dust, shocking us by how much was there.

The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute comes with the anti-tangle screw tool. This is for removing hair from small surfaces like sofas and carseats. We removed a clump from a hairbrush and placed it on the sofa. Then, we used the anti-tangle tool to clean it up. It was amazing to see how it went straight into the canister, without it getting caught around the bar.

It was easy to convert the vacuum from handheld to handheld mode. However, as with other Dyson cleaners, this involves removing the main handle. We did not find the vacuum lighter than the previous Dyson vacuums and our arms began to ache.

The V15 can be used in handheld mode to collect dust from vehicles and other objects.

We can’t fault V15 Detect’s suction – it picked up all dirt and debris, including small stones and leaves, as well as human hair, that had collected under the driver’s seat. However, the vacuum’s handheld mode is heavy. We had difficulty vacuuming under the front seats of the driver and passengers, and in the storage area on the center console which attracts dust and debris.

The V15 Detect comes with a crevice and combination tool. We found that they were useful for cleaning small spaces and edges. The V15 comes instead of the mini motorized Dyson head that previous Dyson vacuums came with, but the anti-tangle hair screws tool. This tool is designed to concentrate on hair and not dust or dander. We didn’t find it as effective as the motorized one at removing upholstery dust and dander.

The V15 Detect Absolute was easy to empty. Once the wand and cleaning attachments had been removed, the lever at the back of dust canister opened the lid. We were able to quickly eject all the debris from the bin.

Although the vacuum was quiet at lower settings, it produced a decibel reading of 81db at maximum suction. This is comparable to a truck moving at 40 mph. It was one of the louder vacuums that we have tested.

Battery life

  • Depending on the power setting, ranges between 15 and 60 minutes
  • To fully charge the battery, it takes approximately 5 hours
  • Cleaning is interrupted by a swipeable battery

Dyson claims that the battery can last for up to 60 minutes using the Eco setting. During our testing, we were able to get a respectable 59 minute interval before the vacuum required recharging. The bundled charger took approximately five hours to recharge the battery completely.

The battery attaches to your vacuum cleaner’s handle and can be replaced to keep your cleaning session uninterrupted. However, you will need to purchase additional batteries.

Do I need the Dyson V15-Detect Absolute?

It’s a good deal if you…

You want your home to be spotless

The Dyson V15 Detect Absolute has an LCD screen that shows you how much dust and debris have been removed from your floors. This is a great choice for people who want to feel confident that their home has been thoroughly cleaned.

Hard floors in your house

Dyson V15 Detect’s main feature is its ability to detect microscopic dust particles on hard floors using a laser. This makes it ideal for people who don’t have carpet.

You need powerful suction

Dyson V15 Detect vacuums are powerful and can take in everything in one sweep. This cleaner is the right choice if you need powerful suction.

It’s not worth the risk if you…

Are you on a budget

This vacuum cleaner is priced at $699.99 / PS599.99 / AU$1,399 and is Dyson’s most expensive. If you have a tight budget, you might consider a more affordable Dyson model such as the V8. It is still very effective at sucking up dirt and dust, but doesn’t come with the latest technology.

You own a large house

A dust canister that holds 0.75 liters or 0.2 gallons of dust will be enough to keep you busy cleaning if your home is larger. You might consider one of Dyson’s larger vacuums like the Dyson V11 Large.

A loud vacuum is not what you want

Although it is relatively quiet at lower power settings, it can be as loud as a truck going 40 mph on its maximum setting. If you are looking for quiet appliances, it should be avoided.
