Mirroring your iPhone to an Apple TV
Open the Control Center on iPhone and tap screen mirroring. Next, select your TV and then enter the AirPlay code you see on the TV screen.
You must ensure that your TV’s AirPlay has been turned on before you can mirror or AirPlay from an iPhone to your TV. Go to Settings > Apple TV AirPlay.
- Your iPhone and TV can be connected to the same WiFi network. Go to the home page, then select Settings to see which WiFi network your Apple TV connects to. Next, go to Network. You will see your WiFi network at top of your screen.
- Open Control Center on your iPhone. For iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top-right corner. To open the Control Center if you have an older iPhone, swipe down from the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Screen Mirroring. It looks like two rectangles stacked on top of one another.
- Next, choose the Apple TV device that you wish to mirror. This list includes AirPlay 2-enabled smart televisions that you can check to see if your TV is compatible with Apple AirPlay.
- Enter the AirPlay passcode. This passcode will appear on your TV screen.
After entering the AirPlay passcode your phone screen will be displayed on your TV. Your phone’s audio will also play through your TV’s speakers. Depending on the app you’re using, you can flip your phone upside down to view a landscape image.
Mirroring your iPhone to your TV is great for certain things but it will not give you the best quality image. AirPlay is a better option if you wish to mirror music or movies from your iPhone to your television. Here’s how:
AirPlay from Your iPhone to Your Television
AirPlay photos and videos from iPhone to Apple TV is possible if AirPlay is enabled on the Apple TV. Next, tap the AirPlay button and select your TV. Next, enter the code on your TV.
- Your iPhone and TV should be connected to the same WiFi network
- Next, choose a video that you wish to mirror on your TV.
- Next tap the AirPlay icon. This icon resembles a TV’s shape with a triangle at its bottom.
- Then select your TV.
- Enter the AirPlay passcode. This passcode will appear on your TV screen.
AirPlay can be used to mirror photos and videos from your iPhone’s camera roll. To do this, open the Photos app and choose the image or video that you wish to mirror.
Next, tap the share icon at the bottom-left corner with the arrow pointing up from a box. Scroll down to select AirPlay. Next, scroll down and select AirPlay.
The slideshow can be selected from the same menu. This will allow you to view all of your photos or select albums as a rolling slideshow with music.
Go to the Music app to select a song to AirPlay from your iPhone to your television. Next, tap the Airplay icon that appears at the bottom and has circles around it. Next, choose your TV and enter the AirPlay password.
Your Apple TV remote will not be able to adjust the volume of your TV, but your iPhone.
