Why Does My Computer Keep Waking From Sleep Mode?

Why your computer wakes up from sleep mode

Your computer could wake up from sleep mode if certain peripheral devices, such as headphones or keyboards, are plugged into USB ports.

How can you stop your computer from going into sleep mode

To prevent your computer going into sleep mode, go to Settings. Select Additional power settings > Modify plans > Disable Allow you to wake up while in sleep

  1. Please click on the magnifying glass icon in the lower-left corner.
  2. Enter Power, then sleep into the search bar. Click Open
  3. Scroll down, then click Additional power settings. This will bring up a new window with your Control Panel settings.
  4. Next, select Balanced then click Modify your plan settings.
  5. Next click on Change advanced power setting.
  6. Expand the Sleep Section, then expand Allow Timers. Use the plus sign to the right.
  7. Next click on Disable, and then click Apply. Windows 10 computers can be set to wake up at “Important Timers only”.

 

However, this may not resolve the problem.

How do you find out why your computer is not working

Open Command prompt as an Administrator. Type powercfg/lastwake if your computer isn’t sleeping.

  1. Please click on the magnifying glass icon in the lower-left corner.
  2. Type Command Input into the search bar.
  3. Next, click on Open as Administrator. An error message will pop up asking you to confirm that the program is running as administrator. Select Yes.
  4. Next type powercfg/lastwake in your keyboard and hit Enter. A USB device is one that appears to be working.
  5. Use powercfg/waketimers and check if any wake-timers are present.

 

Double-clicking a device to stop Windows 10 from going into sleep mode will turn it off. Next, click on the Power Management tab. To wake the computer, untick the box next

  1. Type Powercfg-devicequery wake_armed into the Command Prompt . This will tell you which devices are making Windows 10 wake up.

Only the keyboard and mouse can wake the computer up from sleep mode.

  1. Next, press Windows key +R on the keyboard.
  2. Enter devmgmt.msc into the search bar and click OK.
  3. Double-click on the device that’s causing your computer to wake up and choose it. This will display the properties of the device.
  4. Next click on the Energy Management
  5. Check Allow devices to wake up. Click OK.

 

How to get rid of programs that keep your computer running

Open Command Prompt and type powercfg_requests to prevent a program from waking up your Windows 10 computer.
