Screen Recording on Macs using the Screenshot Utility

The screenshot utility is the best way of capturing the screen on your Mac. The screenshot utility allows you to take screenshots and screen recordings.

To open the utility, press Cmd + Shift+ 5, on your keyboard.

If you choose Record the entire screen, a camera icon will appear. Move the camera to the area you wish to record and click on the Start Recording button.

Select Record selected Portion to adjust the frame size. Drag the corners of the box to the right.

Select different options to record your Mac screen by clicking Options.

How do you stop screen recording on your Mac?

It is possible to get confused about how to stop recording after you’ve finished recording. The screenshot utility window won’t be visible in front. Instead, look for the small Stop button in the upper-right corner. This will allow you to stop the screen recording from your Mac.

To stop recording you can also hit Control + Control + Esc. Hit Shift+ 5 to bring up the screenshot bar and give you an option to stop recording.

The recording will automatically save to the Desktop. In the lower-right corner, you will see a preview of the recording. This is similar in appearance to taking a screenshot. Click on the preview to view the entire recording.

Click this overlay to capture your screen.

Once everything is set up you can begin recording by clicking on the Record hyperlink. To halt screen recording from your Mac, click the Stop icon in the upper-right corner.

The video will open immediately.
