Both cases will see the custom screensaver added to the Windows screensaver list.

Remember that custom screensavers can also be customized.

To select the screensaver that you would like to use, and to modify any settings, open Windows Settings and go to Personalization > Screensaver Settings.

1. Fliqlo

We’ll be introducing some “artsy” screensavers soon, but for now we’ll start with Fliqlo, a clock screensaver.

How long do you spend staring at the screen of your computer when the screensaver runs? It’s likely not that long for most people.

Fliqlo offers a few settings including a clock size and a toggle for 12/24 hours.

2. Briblo

What would you like to be able to build buildings from virtual LEGO? This Windows 10 screensaver is free and allows you to do just that.

The screensaver looks a lot like LEGO-meets Tetris. You would have more control over which blocks appear.

Even better, the screensaver comes with controls that will not activate your screen when you are building. You can move blocks with the arrow keys; the space bar rotates them.

3. Electric Sheep

Electric Sheep can best be described as a collaborative art project. It is the ultimate custom screensaver for Windows 10.

Let’s explain. If you run the screensaver while your computer is asleep it communicates with other Electric Sheep computers to create abstract animations (called “Sheep”)

The users can vote for their favorite sheep. The more votes the sheep receives, the more likely they are to reproduce and live for longer.

Electric Sheep should only be used if there is an always-on, high-bandwidth internet connection.

4. Pong Clock

Pong Clock is a screensaver that protects your screen while also providing light entertainment.

Pong, a classic 2D game, is well-known to everyone. It was one of the first arcade games, and was created by Atari in 1972. Gameplay was a simplified version of table tennis in which you had to get the ball past your opponent’s paddle.

Pong Clock adds the game to your screensaver. Unfortunately, you cannot play the game yourself. It will end the screensaver. However, you can still watch the computer players fight. You can also see a clock at the top of the screen.

5. Vehicle Screensavers

Although Vehicle Screen Savers may not be as elegant as other free screensavers, it is a great option for anyone who is interested in cars (in the broadest possible sense).

The screensaver is customizable and quite impressive. You can select the number of fish displayed on your screen and choose from three different views of the reef.

7. System 47

This is one of the most popular screensavers for geeks. System 47 is a copy of the Library Computer Access and Retrieval System’s (LCARS), computer interface, as seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

LCARS, the primary computer system of the universe of Star Trek’s Starfleet or the United Federation of Planets, is what many people don’t know.

The screensaver is free and offers eight random animations, including the well-known Sector Scan, Star System Analysis, Milky Way Galaxy Map, and Star System Analysis.

8. zz DVD

Ah, the DVD logo bouncing, we all know it. Now, the real question: Who has ever seen the logo hit the corner of the screen perfectly? It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event!

You can download this amazing screensaver if you haven’t yet had the chance to see one of the most incredible technological sights ever created.

Every bounce changes the color of your logo.

9. YoWindow

YoWindow is a screensaver that shows the weather forecast. YoWindow has a “live environment” that displays the weather forecast, sun, season, and other relevant information.

This custom screensaver will help you see what’s going on outside, even if you are staring at a wall in your office all day.

The screen displays five days of the forecast. You can also set your location anywhere in the world.

10. Another Matrix

Here’s another screen saver for geeks. Another Matrix shows the falling green code, as famousized by the 1999 movie.

The screensaver can be customized by changing the code density and speed as well as the font. Anyone trying to change the color will not be able to do so.

You can also activate a cute little Easter egg. You can also enter your own messages in the Matrix code. They will gradually become visible over time. This could be a great prank you can play on your friend’s laptop.

Is it a good idea to use a screensaver?

Screensavers were created in order to prevent phosphor burning-in on OLED, CRT and plasma monitors.

Modern monitors make this an irrelevant issue. The only criteria for deciding whether or not to use a screensaver is their usefulness and aesthetics. These screensavers may actually be more effective as “eyesavers” because the darker colors give your eyes a break from the bright whites.
