Driver updater tools are exactly what you think they do: They help you to update certain or all of your device drivers for Windows.

Each one has been tested and we can confirm that it is free. They also offer driver downloads.

You can use one and you won’t have to deal with Device Manager as much.

Driver Booster

What We Like

  • You can download drivers right from the program.
  • Prior to updating drivers, a restore point is created.
  • Check for drivers who are not on the schedule.
  • There is no limit to daily driver updates and downloads
  • Also includes an offline updater.

What we don’t like

  • Always displays a button to access the pro version.
  • Advertise the company’s other programs in this area.

Driver Booster is your best choice. It works with all Windows versions and allows you to update drivers quickly by doing all the heavy lifting.

It will automatically detect outdated drivers and support over 6,000,000 drivers. You can download any new updates from within the program so that you don’t have to go to each manufacturer’s site.

You can compare the new version with the current driver before installing it. This is very helpful. Driver Booster makes it possible to create a restore point in case something goes wrong during installation.

You can also use the offline updating feature. Select the offline option from the tools category to export driver information. Next, open the file on a computer with an internet connection. For more information, please refer to Driver Booster’s offline driver upgrader instructions.

You can also roll back drivers, uninstall drivers, ignore drivers, export a drivers list to a textfile, enable Game Boost to free system resources, and view details about the system.

Driver Booster is compatible with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.

Snappy Driver Installer

What We Like

  • Has no advertisements.
  • Portable and easy to use (no installation required).
  • You can download drivers directly from the software.
  • Offline driver installation support.

What we don’t like

  • Scan schedules can’t be supported.
  • It is not as simple to use as software similar.

Snappy Driver Installation is another freeware alternative. You can download multiple drivers for different types of devices at once. Once the drivers are downloaded, you can immediately access the program to install them–with or without an internet connection.

Although the app is simple in its design, it can be difficult to use. Right-clicking on a driver will open additional options, such as showing other drivers, copying its hardware ID, and finding the driver’s INF.

The program does not contain advertisements and doesn’t limit download speeds. It can also install as many drivers as you want without limitations. It supports Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 as well as Windows XP.

Driver Talent

What We Like

  • Let’s reinstall drivers.

What we don’t like

  • The scanning schedule cannot be modified.
  • Although many features are displayed, they are not free.

Driver Talent, previously known DriveTheLife, is a simple program that automatically downloads driver files so you don’t need to search the Internet for official links.

This program not only updates and fixes outdated drivers but also corrupted drivers and backs them up. The Peripheral driver’s section of the program displays printer and USB drivers and tells you if they are installed and functioning normally.

Before you download a driver, its size as well as the release date and version numbers are displayed to you. This allows you to confirm that you have what you need.

Alternative versions include network drivers and work offline. This is great if you don’t have the correct network driver installed. You can also access basic hardware information from the Tools menu.

Driver Talent is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista.

DriversCloud

What We Like

  • Locates beta drivers.
  • Only WHQL-certified drivers are allowed.
  • Displays many other details about the system.
  • It can be used offline.
  • You can download driver files in bulk.
  • You can create a restore point.

What we don’t like

  • There is no fully automated solution.

DriversCloud, formerly known as Ma-Config, is a web service that provides detailed information about your hardware or software, including obsolete drivers.

After the program has been installed and opened, choose Online detection. This will detect all components of your computer and any drivers. All the scan results will open in your web browser once the scan is complete. You can get to the place you want by selecting My Drivers from the top of this page.

You will find a semi-automatic option to install the drivers once you get to the driver page. We recommend this option because it gives you a single executable to launch to install all drivers that you have chosen from the website. There is also an option to manually download each driver update, but the installation is still manual.

Both Windows and Linux are supported.

DriverIdentifier

What We Like

  • We won’t check for drivers who aren’t on the schedule.

DriverIdentifier is a simple driver scanner. Once it finishes, you can open the results in your web browser. You can then manually download and install the drivers you need.

The scanner scans for drivers even when you don’t have internet access. This is useful if your network card driver doesn’t work. After the offline scan is complete, the driver list is saved to a file you can open on a computer that has a working internet connection to retrieve the drivers.

Official system requirements include Windows 7, Vista, XP, and certain Windows Server versions. Other versions of Windows may also work. You can also download a portable version by clicking the link below.

Driver Easy is unique because it can automatically scan for outdated drivers based on a schedule. You can schedule a scan daily, weekly, monthly, or every time you log in to Windows.

Driver Easy, unlike DriverIdentifier downloads drivers directly from the program.

Additional features include the ability to view hardware information and scan for driver updates even if you don’t have internet access. While these features may seem free, they are only available if you pay. These include automatic restore points creations, driver backups, and bulk updating.

Driver Easy should work in Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7 as well as Windows Vista and Windows XP.

DriverHub

What We Like

  • Clean, easy-to-understand interface.
  • Can download drivers in bulk.
  • You can switch between advanced and simple modes.
  • Drivers are automatically installed without your intervention.

What we don’t like

  • During setup, you will be asked to install additional programs.
  • Recommends software that is not related.
  • You can’t automatically check for updates on a scheduled basis.
  • Download speeds for free users might be limited

DriverHub installs drivers and downloads them for you. There is even a section dedicated to recovering files from an error.

The interface is simple and has only a few buttons. You can change the download folder or disable program updates by going to the settings.

You can either keep it simple and just install the program, or you can use Advanced Mode and choose which drivers to install, see version numbers and install alternative drivers (i.e. a newer version but not the current one).

Although the Useful utility section is not driver-related, it does contain helpful links to Windows utilities like Task Manager and Disk Management. You can’t access some other areas, such as the backup and autorun functions unless you pay.

DriverHub works with Windows 11 and 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7.

Ashampoo Driver Updater

What We Like

  • Even for beginners, it is easy to understand.
  • Drivers are restored and backed up.
  • It is a point of restoration for you.
  • Absolutely no third-party advertisements.
  • You can scan automatically according to a set schedule.

  • Drivers can’t be downloaded or installed in bulk.
  • Some settings cannot be altered unless you pay.

This program has over 400,000 drivers. Ashampoo Driver Updater makes it easy to download and install the driver. It can back up and restore drivers, create a restore point prior to all driver installations, and use a scan scheduler.

This program supports the ability to ignore drivers, something that is not supported by all the competitors. It is easy to add and update that you don’t wish to receive to your ignore list. This will prevent it from appearing in future updates.

You must have Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7 installed.

Device Doctor

  • You are only allowed to download one driver per day
  • It doesn’t create restore points prior to updating drivers.
  • Infrequent program updates.
  • Can’t bulk update all drivers.

Both the portable and regular versions of Device Doctor are available. Schedule scans to detect outdated drivers, and then begin the installation of the update when it is detected. Device Doctor does all this for you.

You can only access certain areas of the app if you pay. These include the sections that back up drivers and extra tools such as the startup manager and cache cleaner.

Although the program doesn’t update often, you can check the home screen to see the date of the last database update. This date was last checked just a few days before we used the program. It seems that, although the software does not receive new features often, the database it uses for driver checks is always up-to-date.

Device Doctor can only download one driver per day. It is designed to locate drivers for Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.

DriverMax

What We Like

  • There are no prompts for drivers to be updated (they are installed automatically).
  • You can download drivers from within the program.
  • You can also back up all your device drivers.
  • You can create an offline scan file.
  • Let’s make the scan schedule.

What we don’t like

  • Limit of two driver downloads per hour
  • One driver can only be downloaded at a time. There is no bulk download option.
  • Some features can be blocked; these are reserved for professional users.

DriverMax, another Windows program that updates obsolete drivers, is also available for free. It is not perfect in all areas but it excels in some.

This program can update drivers and back up old drivers. It can also restore drivers from backup, roll back drivers, or identify unknown hardware.

You’ll see a notification at bottom of the screen after updates have been found. If you prefer to look into them later, you can either snooze the notification or leave it there for one day. You can only install two updates per day once you decide to do so. However, it will install silently as well as automatically.

DriverMax detected a much higher number of obsolete drivers than any other program on this list. We compared the versions to the current drivers and all the updates seemed valid.

Paid users receive additional benefits such as unlimited downloads and hourly driver checks.

This program works on Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 7.
