Although the YouTube app allows for offline viewing of videos, not all videos can be downloaded. The video will remain within YouTube’s app and cannot be shared or played elsewhere.
Some browser extensions are available to help you download YouTube videos. We’ll be discussing a few of these extensions below.
1. Addoncrop YouTube Downloader
Addoncrop YouTube Video downloader is a browser extension with many features that allows you to download YouTube videos. CrossPilot is an extension that allows you to add Opera add-ons for Chrome. You will need to download Addoncrop.
After you have downloaded this extension, you will see the Download icon next to the Like buttons on every YouTube video. It is easy to download the Download extension by clicking on the icon.
Click on the More button to change the resolution or format. You will see the video sizes and download options for various resolutions. Next, click on the Save Video As button and right-click to download it.
Click on Options to change the settings. You can select which formats you want to download, whether DASH format items are included, and whether or not to offer the option to download HD video.
The extension comes with a built-in download manager. This shows you all of the audio and videos you have downloaded. You can change the folder by clicking on Show Save As.
Addoncrop’s extension has many useful features. You can take a screenshot by clicking on the Camera icon, located next to the autoplay button. You can hide comments from YouTube.
You can disable video loading if you are listening to music or podcasts. The best feature is the ability to search YouTube simultaneously with a video. You will see related video tabs in the search results.
How to install Addoncrop’s downloader
Download CrossPilot first from the Chrome Web Shop. Next, visit Addoncrop and go to YouTube Video downloader Page.
On the left, click the CrossPilot button. You’ll be able to see the extension in your browser if you grant the permissions.

2. Internet Download Manager
Internet Download Manager (or IDM) is a popular tool that allows you to download many types of files. It does not only support videos. The Chrome Web Store allows you to download the IDM extension, but it only works if you have the IDM software installed on your computer. You will need to download the extension along with the software. Once you’ve done both, restart your browser.
Open any YouTube video to download the videos. In the upper-right corner, you’ll see a Save This Video link with the IDM logo. Click it to choose the video resolution and file format.
Next, IDM will display a dialog box asking for your choice of the folder to save the video and description (optional). Finally, click on the Start downloading button. IDM will save the video to the specified folder.

3. Local YouTube Downloader
Local YouTube Downloader allows you to download YouTube videos directly to your computer. This extension cannot be downloaded through the Chrome Web Store. You will need to install Tampermonkey.
Tampermonkey, a popular user script manager, is available for all major browsers including Chrome and Edge. This user script manager allows you to download user scripts that can be used for downloading YouTube videos.
Once Tampermonkey has been downloaded, you can simply open the YouTube video that you wish to download. To instantly download the video, click Download High-Resolution MP4 below the player.
Click hide/show links to see more formats and resolutions. You’ll find multiple links in this column: stream and adaptive. The links in the Stream column support both audio-video and video, while the right supports only one.
Click on the link to choose the resolution and format for your video. The video will start playing in a new tab. To download videos, right-click on the video and click Save Video As.

Go to Chrome Web Store, and then download Tampermonkey. Next, go to GreasyFork and download the Local YouTube Downer user script.
4. Simple YouTube Video Downloader
Another Opera add-on you can install through CrossPilot is Easy YouTube Video Downloader. It’s a simple YouTube video downloader that does not require any extra features.
Once the add-on is installed, you can open any YouTube video. A green Download button will appear. To open a drop-down menu, click on it. You can view the formats and resolutions available, along with their sizes.
Select the preferred format and a dialog box will appear asking you to select a folder and name the video.
How do I install Easy YouTube Video Downloader?
Download CrossPilot first from the Chrome Web Store. Next, go to Easy YouTube Downloader and click Install With CrossPilot. Grant permissions to download the extension.

5. YouTube by clicking
YouTube by Clicks does not work with browser extensions. It is an independent software program. It works in the same way as any extension. You can download videos from YouTube directly. YouTube By Click can be downloaded from its website.
After installing this software, YouTube will automatically detect any YouTube video and display a small window at the bottom right corner. You’ll be able to download the video in either MP4 or MP3 formats.
You can modify the folder to download videos, the default format, and the quality of the videos by opening the application. It will only detect videos that have been played in Chrome by default. You can, however, turn the option on for other browsers. Software is available in English, French, Spanish, and other languages.
