Xbox One vs PS4 – Is it still worth buying?

It is extremely difficult to find PS5 restock and Xbox Series X restock. One way to get a new’ console is by requesting one from the previous generation.

The Xbox One and PS4 still offer gaming at 1080p. However, the Xbox OneX can reach up to 4K. You won’t run out of games to enjoy while you wait for new Sony and Microsoft consoles to be available.

Xbox One vs PS4: Game library

There isn’t much difference between the Xbox One and PS5 game libraries, as they are both last-generation consoles. Both consoles have access to the greatest games, including Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3 and a collection of indie titles.

There are core differences. There are some core differences. The Xbox One has access to more backward-compatible games than the original Xbox. It also has Xbox Game Pass which offers a large selection of games for a monthly subscription.

The PS5 can access a wide range of exclusive games, including The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Uncharted 4 or God of War. These games are excellent and give the PS4 an edge.

However, the Xbox One does not lack great first party games. Titles like Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 are notable standouts.

Winner: PlayStation 4. While both systems are full of great games, Sony’s system offers more popular games that can only be played on a console.

Xbox One vs PS4 – Backwards Compatibility

The Xbox One is the best console for backwards compatibility if you already have an Xbox 3060 library and an original Xbox game. It will work with many older games such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Ninja Gaiden Black, as well as classics like Jade Empire, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

You can also buy digital versions of popular games like Sea of Thieves or Forza Motorsport7 through Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative. These digital versions can be purchased once and played on Xbox One as well as Windows 10.

As an added bonus, Xbox One games that have been optimized for the Xbox Series X or Series S will be available for free download on the newer hardware if they are already owned.

Playing older games on PS4 is possible, but they must be digital editions as the console cannot read discs from older PS3 and PS2 models. PlayStation Now allows you to stream and download older PlayStation Games on the PS4 at $9.99 per month, $59.99 for 12 Months in the U.S., or PS49.99 for one year in the U.K.

Overall, however, the PS4 is not as intuitive and easy-to-use as the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility.

The winner: Xbox One. Xbox One can play hundreds of Xbox 360 games and cross-play with PC. It also lets you enjoy three generations of Xbox 360 games at a great price.

Xbox One vs PS4: Hardware

Both the Xbox One S and PS4 Slim are impressively slim. They have attractive designs that look great underneath a TV and fit easily into backpacks. Although the newest PS4 is slightly smaller, it does not have an optical input to allow for high-end gaming headsets.

The 4K-ready PS4 Pro by Sony has a more chunky, hamburger-like design. However, the Xbox One X is slightly slimmer than the Xbox One S.

Each console comes with 500GB storage. You can expand this storage by connecting an external hard drive for PS4 or Xbox One. PS4 owners have the option to open up their consoles and swap out a 2.5-inch or SATA drive.

Each controller has its own advantages. The Xbox One pad features textured grips that can be customized using the Xbox Design Lab. While the DualShock 4’s ergonomic design includes a touchpad, reactive lightbar and a touchpad, the DualShock 4 is more ergonomic. Only the PS4 controller supports micro USB charging straight out of the box. Xbox One owners will have to use AA batteries or purchase a $25 charging kit.

The $299 PlayStationVR headset makes PS4 the only console that supports virtual reality. Over the years, the PSVR’s game selection has become quite impressive, with such notable titles as Tetris Effect and Resident Evil7, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, and Moss.

It doesn’t appear that there’s an equivalent for Xbox One and Microsoft is not planning to bring VR to Xbox anytime in the near future.

Microsoft’s console supports mouse and keyboard controls in gaming. Warframe and Fortnite are the only titles that support this feature.

Microsoft also promises wide compatibility for Xbox One accessories and the Xbox Series X. You can buy accessories for Xbox One that will work with the Xbox Series X. This means that headsets, race wheels, and other immersion-building devices will still function on the new console.

Winner: PlayStation 4. Sony’s console looks better, has more features and is currently the only one to support virtual reality.

Xbox One vs PS4 – Performance and graphics

Both the Xbox One and PS4 have similar specifications on paper. The custom 8-core AMD Jaguar processor is used. It’s backed by 8GB RAM and graphics are handled by the AMD Radeon GPU. Both consoles have a 500GB spinning disk drive transitional.

The PS4 actually has a better ability to reduce its power than the Xbox One, despite having these specifications. Because Microsoft’s games console uses some resources to power its operating system, it has less power to use on games. The Xbox One can only display 900p in certain games, while the PS4 displays Full HD 1080p in others. The PS4 is the best when it comes down to rendering the sharpest graphics from the last generation.

This is not the case when you compare the Xbox One to the PS4 Pro. Microsoft’s console is more focused on native 4K output. Sony’s powered-up PS4 uses chequerboard rendering to reduce the resolution of images and scale them to 4K. Our article compares the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

Winner: PS4. Both consoles still look fantastic, but the PS4 base console offers better resolution for many games.

Xbox One vs. Xbox 4: Interface

Although the Xbox One interface was slow at first, it has improved significantly. It works well, is feature-rich, and allows you to access a multitude of settings and tools by simply pressing the Xbox button on your controller.

Although the tiled interface isn’t as intuitive as the UI on other consoles, it’s still informative and flags the most recent Xbox Game Pass games. Xbox Cloud Gaming allows you to stream games to your Xbox One from the cloud, provided that your internet connection is strong enough. Amazon Alexa voice control is also available if you want to speak commands at your console.

The PS4 menu follows a different route and arranges game/setting in one line. It is simple to use, and you can tap the DualShock 4’s Share button to record a clip or broadcast your gameplay.

The menu has many options, but they are not displayed in large numbers. Although the PS4 may not offer as much information as the box One it is certainly more organized and clearer. The soothing background music is also pleasant to the ears.

Both consoles broadcast gameplay to Twitch. However, only PS4 can stream to YouTube. Xbox owners can only stream to YouTube and Facebook, while PS4 users can post screenshots and videos to Twitter and Facebook. Xbox One gamers can stream to Microsoft’s Mixer service.

For those times when the whole family is taking up too much space in the living room, both systems allow off-TV play. Sony’s RemotePlay feature allows you to stream PS4 games from a PlayStation Vita handheld or select Xperia devices. You can also stream them to your computer and Mac. Xbox One users can stream their Xbox One games to Windows 10 tablets or laptops.

Winner: Draw. Both interfaces offer their advantages and drawbacks. Both interfaces are suitable for their intended purpose if you’re willing and able to get used to the UI. We think the PS5’s interface looks better.

Xbox One vs PS4 Entertainment

Xbox One offers the most options. It can transmit your cable box’s TV signal to allow you to switch quickly between watching a movie and playing a video game. The Xbox One, Xbox One, and PS4 Pro all have the ability to stream 4K content. However, only Microsoft consoles can play 4K Blurays. The new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition does not have a disc drive and can only stream 4K content.

Xbox One supports Dolby atmos unlike PS4, which allows users with compatible home theater products, to experience immersive spatial sound. It will also soon support DolbyVision for better HDR quality.

The Xbox One is the only console to feature Kodi. This popular media server app allows you to access any movie, TV show, image, or song you have saved on any device in your home.

Both Xbox One and PS4 offer entertainment basics, including major apps like Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Both Xbox One and PS4 both have Spotify which allows you to rock out to your favorite tunes while you play. Other notable music services include SoundCloud, Pandora, and Deezer on Xbox One.

Winner: Xbox One. This Xbox One has a 4K Bluray option, better media apps, and Dolby Atmos support.

Xbox Game Pass vs. PlayStation Plus

Xbox Live Gold will cost $9.99 per month. However, it allows you to play online multiplayer and offers free downloads each month. We recommend a subscription to Xbox Game Pass at the same price each month. This subscription gives you access to over 100 best Xbox One Games, and other games for older and more recent consoles. It also allows you to play online multiplayer.

For $14.99, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate allows you to access Xbox and PC games as well as cloud streaming and save sync between the three platforms. Game Pass, which is a must-have for Xbox users, is one of the most affordable gaming products.

PlayStation Plus members receive two games for $10 per month and game save cloud storage. Xbox One is exempted from this offer. PlayStation Plus members get discounts on some of the most popular PS4 games.

Xbox Game Pass wins. Xbox Game Pass is so cheap that Sony can’t compete with it. Xbox Game Pass is now an indispensable service, with new games scheduled to launch on Game Pass.

Xbox One vs. Xbox 4: Value

The Xbox One S is priced at $299 (PS300/AU$399). This puts it in line with the $299 Slim (PS300/AU$399). It’s important to note that both consoles are often on sale for $200 (PS200/AU$320). You get the best tech for your money because of the One S doubles as an 4K Blu-ray player.

The Xbox One All-Digital Edition ($249) is an option for those with tight budgets. It has no disc drive, but includes Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, and Sea of Thieves. The standard Xbox One S is often at a lower price, so it’s worth waiting for a sale to get the 4K Bluray drive, especially if you don’t want to rely on digital downloads.

Microsoft recently brought back the Xbox All Access program (opens in new window). You can lease an Xbox One S, Xbox One X, or Xbox One S All Digital Edition starting at $19.99 per month. This is for 24 months. Microsoft claims that this program will save you more than $100 over purchasing the console and bundle games individually. All Access members will be able to upgrade to the upcoming Xbox Series X console in late 2020. However, it is not yet known how much this upgrade will cost.

The PlayStation 4 Pro is $399, which is approximately AU$600 for 4K gaming. The Xbox One X costs $499 (US$499/AU$649). This is a significant price difference, but Microsoft’s console provides a better 4K gaming experience. For the most recent sales, you can check out our PS4 deals or Xbox One deals.

The Xbox One is the winner. The Xbox One S costs $249 (PS300/AU$399) and doubles as a 4K Bluray player.

Xbox One vs. Xbox 4: The bottom line

Although it may seem strange to draw a conclusion about the best console of last generation, these consoles are still receiving games that are made for them. The PS4 wins the overall race due to its wider selection of exclusive games.

You can’t go wrong buying an Xbox One S, especially when you add the absurdly low price of Xbox Game Pass.

If you don’t own a PS4 but have an Xbox One, it’s worth buying Sony’s latest-gen console. This is especially true if it’s at a low price. Although there is an overall winner, it is really you, the console player.
