The GeForce 30-series GPUs can be a great place for beginners or to replace older cards like the GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1080.
Nvidia GeForce models are known for their outstanding specifications and high performance. The lineup of RTX GPUs that Nvidia GeForce offers, especially the 3060 Ti and 3060 Ti, is among the most powerful in the class.
Nvidia GPU siblings GPUs appear similar on the surface. They share a name and a cooling system, as well as dimensions. They do have some differences. This article compares the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3060 Ti to determine the champion.
Specifications: RTX3060 Ti vs RTX3060 Ti
Both cards are made using Samsung’s 8nm technology, however the number of transistors used in each card is different. The RTX 3060 has 13.25 billion transistors while the RTX 3060T has 17.4 billion. A faster processor will have more transistors.
The RTX 3060 is the newer model. It was built on top of the Ampere GA106 CPU die. For a lower heat concentration, the RTX 3060T is based on a physically larger GA104 GPU-die.
The memory size is the most noticeable difference between them. The 3060 Ti has 8GB GDDR6 and the 3060 Ti has 12GB. The boost clock on the 3060 is 1777 MHz. This is more than the 1,665 MHz of the 3060 Ti, making it the fastest GPU. However, this is not true.
The RTX 3060 has 3,584 CUDA Cores and a core speed performance of 1,320 MHz. While the 3060 Ti contains 4,864 CUDA Cores and a performance core clock of 1410 MHz, it has a core clock efficiency of 1410 MHz.
The RTX 3060Ti offers superior performance despite having a lower VRAM and a slower boost clock. The reason for this is because the 3060 has only a 192-bit memory, while the 3060 Ti has 256-bit memory. This results in a smaller data exchange between the 3060 and the GPU, which further reduces the overall bandwidth.
Below is a table comparing the specifications of both cards.
RTX 3260 | RTX 3260 Ti | |
GPU Die | GA106 | GA104 |
Architecture | Ampere | Ampere |
CUDA Cores | 3,584 | 4,864 |
RT Cores | 28 | 38 |
Tensor Cores | 112 | 152 |
VRAM | 12GB GDDR6 | 8GB GDDR6 |
Memory Bus | 196-bit | 256-bit |
Core/Boost CPU | 1,320 MHz/1.777 MHz | 1,410 MHz/ 1,665MHz |
Transistors | 13.25 billion | 17.40 billion |
TDP (W). | 170 | 200 |
Interface | PCIe 4.0 | PCle 4.0 |
Card performance is affected by the cooling system specifications (temperature and power specs). Graphics Card Power and Recommended Power System for the 3060 are respectively 550W and 170W. The 3060 Ti’s Recommended Power System and Graphics Cards Power are 600W each for the 3060 Ti.
The maximum temperature of both GPUs is the same, however the 3060 Ti uses more power than its counterpart the 3060. The 3060 Ti could reach its maximum temperature quicker because it is more power-efficient.
RTX3060 Ti vs. RTX3060 Ti: Performance
Performance differences between the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3060Ti depend on the Add-In Board model. Comparing, for example, the MSI GeForce RTX3060 Ti Ventus3X OC with the MSI GeForce RTX3060 VENTUS2X 12G OC shows that the 3060 Ti offers slightly better performance.
Both cards offer 60 frames per second at 1080p and 1440p respectively, but they deliver less than 50 for more intense games. Performance differences are barely two-digits.
Both cards are capable of running intense games with no noticeable performance differences. The RTX 30 series is loaded with the most powerful GPUs for 4K gaming. We recommend reading our iGame RTX3060 Ultra W OC review to learn more about the RTX3060 models.
Pricing and availability
The MSRP of the RTX3060 is $329 and the RTX3060 Ti is $399. Both GPUs offer great value for money, despite their high price tags. The only problem is that Nvidia’s 30-Series GPUs are not in stock at the time . This makes it difficult to find these GPUs at their recommended retail price . The 3060 Ti can be purchased at around $800 to $1,000, while the 3060 Ti can be bought through third-party retailers.
RTX3060 Ti vs. RTX3060 Ti: Which is Better?
Gaming gamers should consider the VRAM on the graphics card. Crypto-miners will be more concerned with the GPU’s hashrate.
While the RTX 3060 doesn’t have as much performance as the 3060 Ti, it does have 12GB VRAM. This makes it quite efficient for gaming. The VRAM advantage of RTX 3060 over the RTX 3060 at 1080p and 1440p resolutions is negligible.
Benchmark results for 3060 vs. 3060 Ti reveal that the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti GPU is superior, but it loses by a slim margin.
