Sony TV No Sound: Here Are The Tips to Fix It

The problem with most Sony TVs is the sound/sound not working.

Connect the power cord to your Sony TV

Unplug your power cable from the rear of your TV.

Unplug the device for approximately 60 seconds. Then plug it back in.

When you plug it in, make sure that the connection is secure. You must ensure the TV has stable power.

Connect the power cord and turn on your TV.

Software Update for Sony TV

Older versions can cause a lot of problems.

The most current version should be downloaded automatically by your TV. Sometimes, it does not.

It is possible that your TV may be turning itself on because of automatic software updates.

To disable automatic software updates,

  • On your remote, press HOME
  • Select SETTINGS
  • Customer Support
  • Scroll down and find AUTOMATIC FTWARE DOWNLOAD
  • This can also be turned OFF

To resolve the problem, ensure that your software is current.

Sony TV Sound/Audio Settings Reset

You can also fix sound issues with your Sony TV by resetting all audio/sound settings

To open Menu, for example on a Sony Bravia Smart TV, press Menu. Scroll to Settings then Preferences.

Scroll down to Sounds and then click Reset.

This will reset your Sony TV’s factory default sound settings.

This factory reset restores your Sony TV’s settings to the date it was bought.

Turn on your TV and click the HOME/MENU button.

Factory Repair Sony TV Without Remote

If you don’t have a remote control for any reason, you can factory reset your Sony TV.

This is done by finding the buttons on your TV. It depends on the model of your TV. They can be found on either the left or right side of your TV.

Unplug your Sony TV. Press the POWER button and the VOLUME button simultaneously until your TV is plugged in again.

Rename “Dolby Digital Plus” to “Dolby Digital”

Open Settings > Display and Audio > Audio Output. Add Dolby Digital to Dolbydigit.

Use your Sony remote to change Stereo System to Settings/Options.

You can return to the Options/Options menu and then go to Audio Adjustments > Advanced Setting. Dolby Digital PLUS out must be turned off


When you use a Cable Box, a streaming device such as Roku and Amazon Firestick turns HD-DOLBY OFF.

For example, on Firestick, go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio > Dolby Digital Output > Turn Dolbydigit Plus Off.

“Digital Audio Out” changed to PCM

Last note: You can convert Digital Audio Out to PCM if you have a Sony Bravia TV.

To do so, press the Home button on your Sony remote. Go to Settings > Preferences>>Setup >> Digital Audio Out. You can change this to PCM.
