Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 is among the most high-quality true wireless headphones currently available. They are miles ahead of the Apple AirPods in terms of sound quality.
German audio brand is a long-standing name in the world over-ear headphones and, since the launch of the Momentum True Wireless last ye, it has been the global leader in true wireless earbuds.
Sennheiser now offers its noise cancelling earbuds to compete with the best earbuds, and also make an impact in the best noise cancelling headphones market. The AirPods Pro and Sony WF-1000XM3 are similar, with a longer battery life and a smaller design.
Prices and availability
Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2 costs $299 / PS279 / AU$499.95. This makes them significantly more expensive than the Sony WF1000XM3, which retails for $230 / Ps220 / AU$400.
The price is the same as their predecessors last year. If you are looking for a way to save money, you might consider the first-gen momentum True Wireless headphones. You can often find them at a discounted rate.
Design
You might be hesitant about spending so much on a pair of earbuds. However, a few minutes with the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 will convince you that they are extremely well-made and have the luxurious finish you would expect for this price.
The true wireless earbuds are very similar to the originals. They have shiny metallic touch-sensitive housings and a round shape. Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 looks very sleek. The silver finish is elegant and stylish without being too ostentatious. These buds look great inside, with their gold-plated charging pins as well as LEDs that indicate the pairing status.
The charging case is also sophisticated with a gray woven finish. On the back, you’ll find a USB C charging port and a button that can be pressed to check how much battery your case has via an LED that glows red or orange.
Sennheiser claims that Momentum True Wireless 2 is 2mm smaller than originals. With three extra eartips included in the box, it should be possible to find a snug fit.
If your ears are smaller than ours, you might find the circular housings a bit uncomfortable. After a long listening session, our ears felt very sore.
Although we don’t believe this to be a problem for all users, it is something that you should consider.
If the fit is not comfortable for you, the IPX4-rated Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless2 can be used as running headphones. They are resistant to sweat and rain.
Touch-sensitive housings enable you to reject or answer phone calls, change your music, and summon your voice assistant. The controls were easy to use and we liked that you could assign different functions via the Sennheiser Smart Control App. You can also use the auto-pause feature to stop your music when you take your buds out of your ears. This is handy for those who are in a hurry.
You can also toggle the noise cancellation on or off. There is also a transparency mode which allows ambient sound to pass through the buds. This is useful for those who use these earbuds to exercise and are aware of their surroundings.
Connectivity and battery life
The buds have a longer battery life than previous models, with seven hours of battery life from the buds and 21 hours from their charging case. This is an increase of four hours from the earbuds and eight from their charging case. It puts them on par with true wireless earbuds.
It was easy to pair them with our smartphone, thanks to Bluetooth 5.1, which supports the most recent wireless streaming standard. With support for Qualcomm’s codec aptX, you can stream High-Res Audio via Bluetooth without any problems.
Audio quality
The Momentum True Wireless 2 also has 7mm dynamic drivers. Sennheiser claims that they will produce “outstanding stereo sound” with deep bass, natural mids and clear, detailed, treble.
Listening to SBTRKT’s Wildfire feat Little Dragon, the Momentum True Wireless 2, masterfully navigated tight synths, clear vocals and textured highs. They sounded punchy but not harsh.
We were astonished by the low frequencies and chest-thumping intensity of Kelela’s Rewind as we moved on to Kelela’s Rewind.
However, the mid and treble frequencies weren’t neglected. Chattering hi-hats as well as lush RnB vocals were heard throughout the track.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 has a wide soundstage with crisp detail and is a worthy competitor to the Sony WF1000XM3 – though they don’t sound as controlled as the former.
Sony’s buds don’t have noise-cancelling capabilities. While they can block some noise from the environment, we found that some was still able to pass through. Turn your music on, however, and all will be well.
Final verdict
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 is a top choice for the best wireless earbuds . We are extremely impressed with the sound quality, battery life and design. They are a great alternative to the Sony WF1000XM3 and we would recommend them wholeheartedly. The differences in these earbuds are minimal.
These buds are not recommended for those with smaller ears. In any case, ensure that the vendor you choose accepts returns if the product is not defective. Sennheiser does not permit this if the customer deals directly with the company.
These wireless earbuds are a great choice for anyone who wants to cut the cord. They have enough sound quality to satisfy even the most ardent audiophile.
