Many gamers are unsure whether they should buy the Nvidia GeForce Ti or the Nvidia Ampere cards. The RTX3070 Ti is right at the middle of the RTX 3270, RTX 3070 and RTX 3280 cards. However, it falls in the middle when it comes to price. So the question is whether the RTX3070 Ti’s performance will make it worthwhile.
This assumes that the graphics card market stabilizes, that stock for the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 is widely available, and that prices drop. Most of us will be looking for any graphics card that is available without having to pay the outrageous markups charged on eBay and StockX profiteers.
Let’s compare the RTX3070 Ti and RTX3080 to see how they stack up in terms of price and performance. This will help you decide which best graphics card for your budget.
Nvidia RTX3070 Ti vs RTX3080: Price
The RTX 3070Ti is priced between the RTX 3070 & RTX 3080. It starts at $599 / P529 / AU$979 Founders Edition. Generally speaking, aftermarket cards from MSI, EVGA, and Asus will be more costly.
The RTX 3080 is priced at $699 / PlayStation649 (around AU$1,050). The RTX 3070 is $499 / PS469 / AU$809 Founders Edition.
If you assume you can find any of these cards for these prices, the RTX3070 Ti will be less expensive. Even with the high prices currently being charged for graphics cards, it is likely to be more affordable than a similar RTX3080 anywhere you might find it.
You should pay attention to what you are getting for your money. In this instance, the RTX 3080 is still the better value, even though it costs $100 / PS60 / around AU$200 more.

The RTX 3080 has 2,560 CUDA cores more than the RTX 3070Ti. The RTX3080 has the greatest advantage, as CUDA cores do all of the graphics processing.
CUDA cores are responsible for breaking down various tasks needed to render a frame. This includes lighting and geometry. They then work in parallel on each task, stitching them together at the end to create a frame onto the card’s video output. A card with more CUDA cores can produce frames faster, which is a good thing for gamers and other graphics-intensive tasks.
The RTX 3080 also has 2GB GDDR6X RAM, which allows it to load additional textures, models, or other data directly into memory. This gives CUDA cores the resources they need to work faster.
The RTX 3080 has a 320-bit memory bus, compared to the RTX 3070’s 256-bit. This means that the RTX 3080 will transfer more data per cycle from and to memory than the RTX 3070. This will allow the CUDA cores to work more efficiently, which further boosts performance.
The RTX 3070Ti has a slight advantage in that its clock speeds are slightly faster, but it isn’t fast enough for it to compete with the RTX 3080’s 2,560 CUDA cores. Clock speed is not as important here because the RTX 3080 can handle almost anything you throw at it.
The RTX 3070Ti is not supposed to improve on the RTX 3080 (that would have been the RTX 3080i), but it is supposed to partially fill the gap between the RTX 3070 RTX 3080. So how does it do that? The RTX 3070 is not as fast as the RTX 3070, especially when it’s high-performance graphics such as 1440p or 4K gaming.
The RTX 3070Ti is clearly faster than the RTX 3080 on paper, but it’s not a significant performance increase. The difference in performance is not noticeable by most gamers at 1440p or 1080p with ray-traced turned on.
Nvidia RTX3070 Ti vs RTX3080: Which one should you choose?
The RTX 3070 costs a bit less than the RTX 3080. Therefore, the RTX 3070’s lower performance is not as significant when you consider the price savings. The RTX 3070Ti is a better option. Although the performance is slightly higher, it is also more expensive. Therefore, you won’t get enough performance to justify the extra cost of the RTX3070.
You might be willing to pay $100 more for an RTX3070 Ti than you would for the RTX3070. This will allow you to get a graphics card with significantly higher performance. It is the difference between great 1440p gaming or great 4K gaming.
If you are really on a tight budget, the only reason we would recommend the RTX 3080 over the RTX 3070 is if $599 / PS529 / AU$979 price is what you can afford for a new graphics card. If this is the case, then we recommend the RTX 3070. You can save the extra money for a night out or upgrade old gaming peripheral. The RTX3070 Ti is a waste of money at this price.
