Modern printers are capable of connecting to your computer via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. What should you do if your printer suddenly stops working? What can you do to get your printer back online? Maybe it displays the generic Code 10 error.

1. Verify the Printer and Computer Connection

Make sure all cables are checked. Check that they are connected to the printer and the computer.

2. Restart the computer and printer

5. Clear the Print Queue

6. Assign the printer to default

Click Printer on the top toolbar and click As Default Printer. You might see a message saying “Setting this Printer As Default means that Windows will stop managing your default printer.” If you do, click OK.

This feature can be enabled by going back into Printers & Scanners, and selecting Allow Windows to manage my default printer.

7. Restart the Print Spooler Service

The printer interacts with the print spooler. To bring your printer back online, you can restart this service.

Search for Service in the Start menu. Next, click on the appropriate app. Scroll down until Print Spiller appears under the Name columns. To open it, right click on it. Click Restart.

8. Update the printer drivers

If there are no issues with your computer, it is not necessary to update the drivers. You might need to locate outdated drivers and replace them . You might update drivers if your printer goes offline.

Press Windows Key + X to open Device Management. Double-click on the Printers window to open it. Click on the printer to open the Printers window.

9. The Printer Software

Many printer manufacturers provide their own software to help you manage and troubleshoot your printer. This software should be installed if the CD is still on your printer. It can also be downloaded from their website if you do not have the CD.

Verify if the software is installed. To open Settings, hit the Windows key +I. Click Devices>> Printers & scanners to choose your printer, then click Manage. You will see an icon that says Open Printer App if the software is installed.

You can find sections in the software that will allow you to reset, troubleshoot, or fix your printer.

10. Removing and reinstalling your printer

If all else fails, you can always take your printer out of the computer and add it again.

To open Settings, press Windows Key + I. Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners to open Settings. Click Remove device. Next, click Yes.

Next, click Create scanner or printer. Follow the wizard to connect the printer.
