As if the Fast and Furious naming/numbering convention was not complicated enough, the order in which the films were released does not correspond to the on-screen continuity. This means that it is difficult to view Fast and Furious films in chronological order.
Tokyo Drift is the rogue factor that’s shaking up everything. Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto, who had been absent from Fast & Furious 2, suddenly showed up at the movie’s end. Everyone assumed that Fast & Furious 4 would continue where it left off. There was a glaring continuity problem: Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang), had been killed in Tokyo Drift and was still alive in Fast & Furious.
Fast & Furious 6 ends with Han making his fatal trip to Tokyo. The British rogue agent Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, was driving the car that killed Han. However, the scene in which Toretto appears in Tokyo actually took place during Furious 7/Fast & Furious 7 You got all that?
Fast & Furious 9 continues after The Fate of the Furious/Fast & Furious 8. Charlize Theron’s Cipher is back in action along with John Cena, who stars as Dominic Toretto’s brother (! and a rival. If you haven’t yet seen the movie, we’ll let you know what it says about Han’s fate.
Fast and Furious 10 and 11 will be a two-part finale. Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs will not be in the parts 10, but Jason Statham’s Deckardshaw seems to be a possibility.
Vin Diesel, star and producer of FAST 9, stated that the film was intended to be the prequel to Finale and create a narrative that could span multiple films. It was important to establish the foundation for the final film, which will need to be split into two films due to the sheer number of elements.
A pair of official short films expands the continuity. Turbo Charged Prelude is the setting for 2 Fast 2 Furious and explains how Brian O’Conner, Paul Walker’s character, ends up in Miami. Vin Diesel directed Los Bandoleros, which establishes the key plot points of Fast & Furious’ fourth movie.
We haven’t included it in the chronological list, but true Fast and Furious fans may want to see the crime drama Better Luck Tomorrow. While not technically Fast and Furious, Justin Lin and Sung Kang both confirmed that the Han in Better Luck Tomorrow is the exact same character who appears in Tokyo Drift.
The kid-friendly spinoff Fast & Furious: Spy Racers is available on Netflix for four seasons. The show is about Dom Toretto’s younger cousin Tony. However, the tone of the series is very different from the movies, so we have removed it from the chronology.

It should not be difficult to find the Fast and Furious movies arranged by release date. Unfortunately, the naming conventions for this series are confusing and titles could be different depending on where this is being read.
In the beginning, it was easy. The original The Fast and Furious was followed by the pun-driven 2 Fast 2 Furious. The Japan-set The Fast and Furious 3 was subtitled Tokyo Drift. But things got really weird for the fourth installment, simply called Fast & Furious. It’s impossible to get lost in that title – but it was Fast & Furious.
American viewers were then treated to a moving feast of titling with Fast Five and Furious 6. Furious 7 was also featured. And (bizarrely), The Fate of the Furious. With a simple F9, the ninth installment embraced simplicity.
Brits, meanwhile got a more consistent

Fast & Furious 10 & 11 are certain to be released, but don’t be surprised if the names change when they are released in the US.

It took Fast Five for Fast Five to reach its stride and successfully transition from car racing dramas into all-action spy movies.
Fast Five was the beginning of a three-movie run of success for the saga. Then came The Fate of the Furious. 2 Fast 2 Furious was the franchise’s low-point sequel for a while, but F9 is now the most-liked movie by IMDb users with a meager 5.2/10. Maybe expectations were too high after such a long delay.
