It can be difficult to figure out the order in which you should play Kingdom Hearts games. It is well-known as one of the most confusing and difficult gaming franchises, so it’s no surprise that you might feel overwhelmed if you try to play them in chronological order.

How to play every Kingdom Hearts game in the order you want: Platforms you will need
Before we can explain the order in which you should play Kingdom Hearts, it is important to first know what equipment you will need to actually play them.
Kingdom Hearts is the only series that has managed to cover a wider range of consoles in the last 20 years. It’s difficult to imagine any other series.
You can trust the Kingdom Hearts 1.5, 2.5, and 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for most of the older games. These collections combine nine adventures into three easy packages on Xbox One or PS4 as well as Nintendo Switch.
To complete the list, you will also need the console games Kingdom Hearts 3 & Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memories as well as the mobile apps Kingdom Hearts Union X & Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.
This method won’t allow you to play every Kingdom Hearts game. The 1.5 and 2.5 Remixes of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Day and Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded are cinematic cutscene-only experiences that only recap the story of each game.
Some titles, such as Kingdom Hearts Union X or Kingdom Hearts Dark Road, are not available online because they have been closed down. The offline stories-only versions of the games can still be played, with Dark Road adding the final chapter later in the year. A short section of the Union X story can be seen in the X Back Cover movietic.
Last but not least, we will be dropping Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix & 2.5 Remix games from the following lists. These are not their games, but a collection of other games.
How to play Kingdom Hearts in chronological order
This is the definitive list for Kingdom Hearts. This list takes you from the very beginning of the series – which depicts the Keyblade War, which reshaped the universe into what we see later – to the end and conclusion of the Dark Seeker Saga, which ended in Kingdom Hearts 3
Multiple games from the series were re-released on different platforms and renamed. These titles all tell the exact same (or almost identical) story at the same time so we have grouped them under one entry.
You might find the chronological order to be quite different from the game’s release order. This structure is also influenced by the way the story is told. The release order list is further down.

This article will show you how to play Kingdom Hearts in the order they were released. You might have trouble playing some games right now because they are stuck on older hardware, such as the GameBoy Advance exclusive Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories. Other games have their online servers down, such as Kingdom Hearts Union X.
We have not combined remakes. Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories is one example. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is another. These are both the same game, but with different graphics.

This list won’t allow you to jump around chronologically very often. However, the next game will fill in any gaps and answer more questions than it does chronologically.
