How to fix ‘iTunes could not connect to this iPhone

Popular Posts

Although iTunes has been discontinued in macOS Catalina, many iPhone users still use it to transfer music to their devices or create backups to store on their Mac or PC.

You can limit this, but you will see the message “iTunes couldn’t connect to this iPhone”. You don’t have permission. If that is the case, here are some steps to take.

Ensure that your USB cable is working.

Although you may not realize it, USB cables can be very different in their capabilities. Some can charge while others can handle data.

Try a different cable if your iPhone is not being recognized by your computer. It could have become less reliable over time if it was working well in the past.

Preview of Apple’s “Peek Performance” event

Apple will host its first event for the year on March 8, when it is expected to announce several new products, including an iPhone SE with 5G (with 5G) and an iPad Air. Apple could also announce a new MacBook Air featuring a revised M2 chip.

You might also consider using a different port to connect your iPhone. Sometimes, these ports can become inoperative.

Unlock your iPhone with a Power-Up

iTunes will not be able to connect to your device if it is locked. Make sure you unlock it and place it on the homepage. Charge it as well.

Rely on the computer that you use

You may be asked to trust this computer when you connect your iPhone with your Mac or Windows PC. This is perfectly normal as it is a necessary setting to connect your iPhone. Tap Trust to see if it resolves the problem.

Updating iTunes

Next, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. Open the App Store and click on the updates section in the left column. Select iTunes if it is listed in the list of available updates. This should resolve your issue.

iOS Update

iOS may also need to be updated. Open Settings > General > Update to check if there is a newer version. Tap Download and install, then Installation.

Restart your devices

It’s always a good idea if nothing else works. Sometimes, powering down your iPhone or Mac and then restarting them can be an electronic form of magic that heals all your ills.

If all else fails, contact Apple Support for assistance.
