If you do not take the proper precautions, your Apple watch could be at risk of water damage. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on costly repairs. These are the top ways to quickly get water from an Apple Watch.

If Your Apple Watch has taken in more water than a sinking ship.

Although most people are familiar with how to use an Apple watch, there might come a point when it becomes damaged by water. These steps can help protect your valuable Apple watch.

First, turn off your Apple Watch as soon as you can. Many people believe that the Apple Watch is waterproof, so you don’t need to worry about liquids or water. This is false! This watch is not something you would wear when taking a bath or going for a swim.

Even with all these precautions, sometimes things happen and your watch may be damaged by liquid. You can save your watch by removing the band and placing it in rice or silica jelly. Your watch will not be damaged if the rice or gel absorbs any moisture.

But you are not done yet. You should still consider taking your watch to a repair shop that can clean and disinfect it. The professionals will not only clean your watch but also replace any damaged parts. This process is not too expensive, so bring your device in to be repaired.

While some people prefer to do it themselves, others may choose to take the item to an Apple Store or another reputable electronics repair shop.

How the Water Lock Function Works on Your Apple Watch

Apple’s new Timepiece has been shipped with a water-resistant case since its inception. The water lock function on the Apple Watch prevents liquids from getting inside. This protects your smartwatch from any water damage or spillage that may occur during normal use.

This feature is so useful that you may wonder why it was added. This feature is something you should always use to ensure your watch is safe and functions properly.

How to Enable and Disable Water Lock

The water lock is turned on by default. This means that your Apple Watch won’t allow you to take it in the shower or put it underwater. Access the system settings of your Apple Watch by scrolling down until you find ‘Protection. Before you start any of these watersports, tap on this option to turn off the button.

It is unusual to submerge your entire body in water daily. But if you do, there are ways to ensure your Apple Watch remains safe. If you feel this will be beneficial, you can cover the buttons with stickers.

Arming the Water Eject Feature in Apple Watch Series 3 and 4

The water lock feature is built into Apple Watch Series 5 and 6. You can find it by going to Settings > General > Emergency SOS. From there, you can activate the Water Lock feature and create an SOS message to be sent to your device if it detects water. You won’t need to worry about getting your device accidentally wet or destroying it.

The Crown on your Water Lock will eject water from your Watch

Water lock mode can be activated by turning the crown towards you. This can be done by holding the crown down for approximately 15 seconds.

The Apple Watch will shut off the water when it detects that the crown has been turned on. You can also see an alert on your screen if your watch hasn’t been removed yet.

To disable the water lock, hold down the crown and press the button until you see “water” next to Water Lock mode. If Airplane Mode has been activated by your phone due to an upcoming flight, you can do the same thing as turning off Airplane Mode.

Wearing any timepiece should be done away from water.

Which Apple Watch Models are Water-Resistant

Apple claims that Apple Watch Series 3, Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, Apple Watch SE, and Apple Watch Series 6 have a 50m water resistance rating under ISO standard 22810,2010. Avoid water sports that require high speeds, such as scuba diving or water skiing.

How the Eject Water Feature works

Apple Watches’ Eject Water feature is extremely sophisticated. It uses a low-frequency sound wave of 165Hz that propels water out of the watch and combines it with the force of turning its crown. This uses a mechanical force to push water out from the speaker hole, pushing it out of the course through the mic hole.

Be careful not to splash water around if you’re working with it. If water is moved around in your device, too much movement can cause damage. After emptying your device, turn the crown away. Your Apple Watch will continue to function after 5 minutes or until it runs out.

You don’t have to download the app. This YouTube uploaded sound will drain the water from the speaker cavity.

My experience using the Water Eject function on my Apple Watch

It is a great way to drain water from your watch through the speaker holes. However, the crown takes a long time to drain slowly. After it has been off for 3 minutes, I need to turn it on again.

However, I feel more confident with my Apple Watch if it had a water lock. It seems absurd to purchase a waterproof watch but not be able to take it swimming within reasonable limits, or to go for a swim in a pool.

The Advantages of a Water-Resistant Apple Watch in Bad Weather Conditions

A waterproof smartwatch has many benefits, including the ability to increase safety and improve your fitness levels. You can track your heart rate while swimming, and leave your phone at home. You can easily measure your swimming distances or set water-based challenges for friends.

In the aftermath of the 2021 flood season, we have seen waterproof smartwatches’ benefits. Many people have used their Apple Watch to stay in touch with loved ones during natural disasters such as hurricane IDA.

It’s a great device for tracking your fitness. However, a waterproof device makes it easy to monitor our safety and health during severe weather conditions such as hurricanes or flooding.
