Wireless headphones can be connected to your Roku streaming device or smart TV using the Roku app. This article also provides information on what to do if private listening fails.
How to connect Bluetooth headphones with Roku using the App
Open Roku on Android or iOS, and connect your Bluetooth headphones.
Notification – Private listening is not possible in Roku’s Roku App for certain devices, such as Roku Express+ Roku streaming stick Roku Ultra, Roku Express+ Roku Express+ Roku Express+ Roku Express+ Roku Express+ Roku Ultra.
- Download the Roku app using your smartphone or tablet.
- Bluetooth headphones can be paired with your smartphone or tablet.
- Next tap Devices within Roku.
- Next, choose your Roku device using tap Remote
- Click the headphones icon.
Connect your Roku device and headphones to the Roku app. You’ll see a headphones icon at the upper-right corner.
Note – If your Roku device has trouble connecting to your headphones, or if the connection is too slow, make sure that both your phone and Roku are connected to the same WiFi network
Navigate to Settings >Network > Create a Connection. Follow these instructions.
How to connect headphones with a Roku TV via the Roku Remote
A remote with a 3.5mm headset connector can be used to connect headphones to your TV. The remote’s audio will immediately change to private listening.

If you experience popping or stuttering, make sure your headphones are correctly connected to your remote.
What should I do if my private listening stops working?
Wait for Private Listening on your Roku device to start. If audio syncing or private listening does not work on your Roku device, please wait for it to start. Private listening can be turned on or off.
