How to Change the Default Search Engine of Your Browser

Google, Bing, and Yahoo are the most popular search engines worldwide. You can also use a search engine other than the default one in your browser. You can search for a term directly from your browser’s address bar and receive results from your preferred search engine. This article will show you how to set your default search engine for Chrome, Safari Firefox, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.

How to change the default search engine in Chrome

Click on the three dots icon at the top-right to change Chrome’s default search engine. Go to Settings >Search engine > Search engine used. Select another provider from the drop-down menu. You can add a provider that is not listed by clicking on the Manage search engine and then clicking on Add.

  1. Click the three-dot symbol in Chrome. This icon will be located in the upper-right corner.
  2. Next, click Settings. This will be at the bottom of any pop-up menu.
  3. Scroll down to Search Engine. To jump to the settings, you can click Search Engine on the left sidebar.
  4. Click the drop-down menu beside the Search engine in the address bar.
  5. Choose the search engine you want to use as your default.

Select Manage search engine to see your preferred search engine. Click the three dots next to your search engine and then select Make default.

Click the Add link to add a search engine. Enter the name, keyword and URL of your search engine. You can add a URL by performing a search using that search engine. Replace the search term with or %s.

For example, you would enter http://www.google.com/search?q=%s to add Google. After you have entered a new search engine you will need to click on the three dots and choose to Make default.

How to change the default search engine in Safari

Open Safari and click Safari in the Apple Menu Bar to change the default search engine. Next, select Preferences. click on the Search tab and choose a default engine from the dropdown menu.

  1. Open Safari. This can be found in your Applications folder.
  2. Next, click Safari in the top-left corner.
  3. Next, select Preferences.
  4. Next, select the Search tab. This will appear at the top right of the popup window.
  5. Next click on the drop-down menu beside the Search engine. Only Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo are available.
  6. Choose the search engine you want to use as your default.

The magnifying glass icon on the left side of Safari’s address bar lets you change the default search engine. A checkmark will be placed next to the name of the default search engine once you have chosen it.

How to change the default search engine in Firefox

Click the three-line icon at the top-right to change Firefox’s default search engine. Next, go to Options> Search and choose a search engine in the default Search Engine dropdown. Scroll down to find more search engines.

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Next, click on the three-line icon. This icon will appear in the upper-right corner.
  3. Next, choose Options.
  4. Click In the left sidebar, search Expand your browser window if you don’t see the above.
  5. Scroll down and click on the drop-down menu Default search Engine.
  6. Choose the search engine you want to use as your default.

Click Search for more search engines if you don’t find your preferred search engine listed in the drop-down. Next, type the name of the preferred search engine into the search bar at the top-right corner.

Next, click the Add to Firefox button. Then select Add from the pop-up that opens. Next, return to Firefox Options and select the search engine you want from the drop-down menu default search Engine.

How to change the default search engine in Edge

Click on the three dots icon at the top-right to change Edge’s default search engine. Next, go to Settings Privacy and search. Select a provider from the drop-down. You can add additional providers under Manage Search Engines.

  1. Open Edge and click on the three-dot symbol. This icon will be located in the upper-right corner of your browser.
  2. Then select Settings.
  3. Next, click Privacy & services in the left-hand sidebar. Expand your browser window if you don’t see it. Alternatively, you can type edge://settings/privacy into the address bar at the top of your browser window and hit Enter.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom and choose Address bar and Search. This option will appear at the bottom.
  5. Next, select your preferred search engine from the Search engine’s drop-down menu in the address bar.

Click Manage search engine to add your preferred search engine. Next, enter your preferred search engine’s name, keyword, and URL. Search for the URL you want to add. Copy the URL, then replace the search term with %s.

For example, you would enter http://www.google.com/search?q=%s to add Google. After you have entered a new search engine you will need to click on the three dots and choose to Make default.
