VLC is a popular media player for both Mac and Windows. VLC can play nearly every audio and video format. VLC can also be used to cast media to your TV if your computer screen is too small for a movie. Here’s how you can cast VLC to your Chromecast device.
Before you Start:
- Chromecast may not work if you disable the VPN on your computer.
- Your Chromecast and computer must be connected to the same WiFi network.
- You must ensure that you are running the latest version of VLC (version 3.0) on your computer. To find out the version of VLC that you have installed on Windows computers, click Help on the menu bar above the window. Select About or Shift+F1 from your keyboard. How to cast VLC from Windows 10 and Chromecast
To cast VLC video from Windows 10 to Chromecast simply open VLC, and then select Playback> Renderer from the menu bar at top of the player. Next, choose the name of the Chromecast device from that list.
- Open the VLC app. Click on the magnifying glasses button at the bottom-left corner to locate the VLC app. Next, type “VLC” in the search bar.
- Next, click Playback in your menu bar. The menu bar can be found at the top right corner of your VLC window.
- Hover your mouse pointer over Renderer. A menu will appear. Choose your Chromecast device to open the menu. You may simply call it a “Chromecast device”. Chromecast, You may also rename it.
Notification: Click Scan if your Chromecast device is not listed in the list. Give it a while, then go back to Playback > renderer. It’s possible your Chromecast and computer are not connected to the same network. You can check if both devices are connected to the same network by going to Tools > Messages, and changing the Verbosity setting to 2. - You can open a video or audio file. Click View Certificate to accept permanently if you see the message “Insecure Site” in the window.
Notification: If you see a Performance Warning window, select OK, Don’t warn again. However, if your laptop is being used, it will drain your battery quicker so make sure you plug it in.
How to cast VLC from Mac to Chromecast
All you have to do to cast your Mac videos to Chromecast is to open VLC and click Playback> Renderer in the Apple menu bar. Next, choose the name of the Chromecast device you wish to cast from the list.
- Open the VLC application. It can be found in your Applications folder.
- From the Apple menu bar, click Playback. The menu bar can be found at the top right of your screen. If Playback is not visible, click on the VLC App first.
- Then hover your mouse pointer over Renderer. A menu will appear. Choose your Chromecast device to open the menu. You may see the following: Chromecast, You may also rename it.
Notice: It’s possible your Chromecast and computer are not connected to the same network. Check this again and then try again. - Open an audio or video file. The audio or video will play automatically on your TV.
