How to Authorize and Deauthorize a Computer in iTunes

You will need to first authorize iTunes or Apple Music to allow you to access purchased music, movies, or other media on your computer. You can also authorize a computer to share your media with other devices in your network, provided you have the same Apple ID. This is how to authorize or deauthorize a Mac, Windows 10 or Windows 10 computer via iTunes or Apple Music.

The Authorization Process in iTunes and Apple Music for Mac Computers

Open the iTunes or Apple Music app, and then click Account on the menu bar. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, hover over Authorizations to select Authorize this Computer.

  1. Open iTunes or Music on your Mac. You will find one or both of these depending on the version of macOS that you have installed.
  2. Next, click Account. After you have selected the app, this will appear in the Apple Menu Bar at top of your screen.
  3. Next, click Log In
  4. Click Sign in and enter your Apple ID password. Click the Forgot Apple ID/Password button in the pop-up window if you don’t remember your Apple ID.
  5. Next, click Login Again.
  6. Hover your mouse over Authorizations to select Authorize this Computer.

How to authorize a Windows 10 computer on iTunes

Click the Account menu item in the iTunes app. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, hover over Authorizations to select Authorize this Computer.

  1. Open iTunes on Windows 10.
  2. Next, click Account. This will appear at the top right corner of your iTunes window.
  3. Next, click Sign In.
  4. Enter your Apple ID and Password, then click Sign in.
  5. Next, click Register again.
  6. Next, hover your mouse above Authorizations to click Authorize this Computer.

Notice: A computer or device that has a different Apple ID can only be authorized once every 90 days. You should ensure that your device is not reauthorized with a different Apple ID too soon.

How to deauthorize a Mac Computer via iTunes or Apple Music

Open the iTunes or Apple Music app, and then click Account on the menu bar. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, hover over Authorizations to select Remove Authorizations.

  1. Open iTunes or Music on your Mac computer.
  2. Next, click Account. After you have selected the app, this will appear in the Apple Menu Bar at top of your screen.
  3. Next click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password and Password.
  4. Next, click Register again.
  5. Next, hover your mouse above Authorizations to click Deauthorize this Computer.

Deauthorizing a Windows 10 computer from iTunes

Open the iTunes app, click Account and deauthorize Windows. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, hover over Authorizations to select Remove Authorizations.

  1. Open iTunes on Windows.
  2. Next, click Account. This will appear at the top right corner of your iTunes window.
  3. Next click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password and Password.
  4. Click Authorizations > Remove This Computer.

You can deauthorize all computers in your network at once if you have not deauthorized them. Here’s how:

Notice: You can only deauthorize computers once per year.

How to deauthorize all your computers on a Mac

Open the iTunes or Apple App and click Account on the Menu Bar. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, click account > view my account to sign in again. Click Unauthorize All.

  1. Open iTunes or Music on your Mac.
  2. Next, click Account. This will appear in the Apple Menu Bar at top of the screen.
  3. Next click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password and Password.
  4. Next, click Login.
  5. Next, click View My Account.
  6. Next, click Deauthorize All. This will appear next to Computer Authorizations.
  7. Click Deauthorize All in this pop-up window.

Click the Manage Devices link below to see which devices have been authorized. This will display all authorized devices. You can then deauthorize each device individually by clicking Remove.

How to deauthorize all your computers on a Windows 10 computer

Open the iTunes app, click Account and deauthorize all computers on your Windows 10 PC. Next, click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password. Next, click account > view my account to sign in again. Click Unauthorize All.

  1. Download the iTunes app to your Windows 10 computer.
  2. Next, click Account. This will appear at the top right corner of your iTunes window.
  3. Next click Sign in to enter your Apple ID password and Password.
  4. Next, click Login.
  5. Next, click View My Account.
  6. Enter your Apple ID password and click login
  7. Next, click on Deauthorize All. This will appear next to Computer Authorizations.
  8. Click Deauthorize All in this pop-up window.
