Parler is out of the picture as Amazon refuses to support it and Apple and Google both remove the app from their Play Store. This could mean that there may be a need to find an alternative application. Gab, which functions almost exactly like Parler, is one alternative social media site.
Gab: An Alternative to Parler
An article from Newsweek claims that Amazon Web Services, or AWS Trust and Safety, has reportedly informed Parler’s CEO John Matza they will no longer host this social media site. Matze responded to the removal by warning Parler users that the app would be offline for approximately a week. He even said that it would “rebuild from scratch”.
Matze stated then that this was a coordinated attack by tech giants to eliminate its competition in the market. Matze then stated that the app had been “too successful to be too fast”. Parler’s closure prompted many users to join Gab, another social media platform.
What is Gab?
Gab was founded in 2016. It is similar to Parler and takes pride in being a “free speech” platform with almost no censorship rules. Gab shares a similar function and layout to Twitter, another popular social media platform.
Gab stated that its website is hosted on its own servers. However, Gab also said that there have been some issues with handling the increasing traffic. Andrew Torba was the first to create the site.
Gab will Parler users become members?
Following the shutdown of Parler, this particular social media site has seen an increase in both users and visitors. Gab tweeted to his 223,000 Twitter followers, stating that the site now boasts a staggering 500,000+ users and 18 million visits. The site can be used without the need for an account. According to ZeroHedge, Gab saw a staggering 753% increase in its users since Parler was removed.
Joe M shared his Gab handle on Parler, stating that they are having trouble coping with the current traffic. However, this will mean that people will be able to find him when Parler goes dark.
