The biggest question at the end of season one was about Rue’s fate. Rue backed out of her plan for leaving town with Jules. This was followed by a haunting song and dance number set in to “All of Us,” a Zendaya original. Many believed the last scenes could have been Rue’s relapse, possibly even fatally.
We know Zendaya will be returning for season 2 and that Rue is still alive. The first special, released in December 2020, revealed that Rue was still in her hometown without Jules but that her sobriety had failed.
Similar to season 1, Jules left town for the city in the final seconds after Rue decided not to run away with them. In the second special, we learn that Jules is now back home. Rue also visits Jules for the first time since their meeting with Ali.
HBO has not yet revealed the exact cast of Season 2, but we can expect major cast members from season 1 to return, including:
- Zendaya by Rue Bennett
- Hunter Schafer and Jules Vaughn
- Sydney Sweeney as Cassie Howard
- Jacob Elordi as Nate Jacobs
- Barbie Ferreira as Kat Hernandez
- Angus Cloud and Fez
- Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez
- Nika King as Leslie Bennett
- Storm Reid and Gia Bennett
- Algee Smith and Christopher McKay
- Maude Aspatow and Lexi Howard
- Eric Dane and Cal Jacobs
- Colman Domingo as Ali
- Minka Kelly is TBA
- Dominic Fike is TBA
- Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr as TBA
It is possible to expect more members of the ensemble. Deadline (opens new tab) Minka Kelly reported.

We know that Rue is still alive, and that Jules has returned from the city to her suburban home. This is based on the series 1 finale and two subsequent specials. What’s next for the group?
We are still waiting to hear the plot details for the second season. However, the cast has given us some hinting hints about their characters in the new season.
Hunter Schafer, the actor who plays Jules, said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she wanted Jules to be more focused on her own self next season. However, that could get messy. She stated, “I think that I want to see Jules continue to work on herself in the fact that she still has some major issues and to continue dissecting that and feeling it out. She learns by experiencing things. To experience the things she needs, without making it messy, is what I believe she will do with the loving sister/parent relationship I share with her. This is what I want for her. But who knows how it will turn out. It will probably be messy for her than I expected.
Rue’s younger sister Gia will likely have a bigger role in this season. Storm Reid, who plays her, stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that “I feel like there’ll be a lot more Gia” in season 2. She will be more prominent in season 2, although I won’t give away too much.
After a very traumatic first season, Cassie will be back with a more “crazy” storyline, Sydney Sweeney teases. The actress spoke to Stylecaster (opens new tab), and hinted at what it might entail. I can tell you that my heart drops when you ask me about season 2. In a you-guys-have-no-idea-what-you’re-going-to-watch way… Cassie really needs to get her shit together. I don’t have any other words. Season 2 features a wild storyline from Cassie that I didn’t expect. Sam’s new episodes leave me speechless. I don’t know how this could be possible.
There’s plenty to look forward too in the next series of episodes – when they arrive, anyway.
Euphoria season 1, and its specials, are now streaming on HBO Max in the US.
