Although The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is expected to be released in Spring 2023, we have not seen any additional footage or concrete details.
It will have to continue the legacy of what is widely considered to be the most popular video game. We hope this means that we take what made Breath of the Wild so great, but expand on it to make sure the formula feels fresh.
Keep that in mind as you read on for all we know so far about Breath of the Wild 2.

Trailer for Breath of Wild 2
E3 2019 saw the debut of the first trailer for Breath Of The Wild 2. It’s here, in case it hasn’t been seen:
A newer and more detailed trailer is available as of June 2021. This trailer covers the same territory but shows off more gameplay features such as a new traversal mechanic, which will allow Link to travel to airborne destinations.
Breath of the Wild 2 story
We know some important details from the Breath Of The Wild 2 trailers. Nintendo has not provided any context. This will be a direct sequel of Breath of the Wild and feature the same versions of Link or Zelda. This is rare for Zelda games as they tend to reimagine Link and Zelda for every major installment. This is not a new idea, however. Zelda II did it the same way as Majora’s Mask.
Link and Zelda are also likely to investigate strange spirit energy that can apparently revive the dead. The tranquil shot of Hyrule shows a quiet rumbling sound that suggests this spirit energy could corrupt the bright lands and make them a dark mirror. The Zelda franchise has been traversing dark and light worlds for decades, from A Link to the Past to Twilight Princess.
According to the setup, Link and Zelda would set out on a new journey following Breath of Wild as promised in the epilogue. The evil power they discover threatens Hyrule. It is not clear if Zelda will continue to be active in the story as in Wind Waker or if she will need to be rescued immediately as in the first Breath.
A prequel, Hyrule Warrior: Age of Calamity will answer all your questions. It was released in November and is a long, complex game. However, it’s an action title that hacks and slashes, not an open-world adventure. Although it isn’t Breath of Wild 2, it offers another opportunity to get lost in the same world.
Although Nintendo has not been forthcoming about Breath of the Wild 2, expect some updates before the end of the calendar year. It’s still Zelda 35th Anniversary. This means that Nintendo has the perfect opportunity to keep us updated about our Hylian warrior.
