There are many reasons to buy

+Raw shooting is an option+4K instead of Full HD video

Avoidable reasons

-Small sensor – No electronic viewfinder

Olympus’s Tough waterproof camera line is undoubtedly the most well-respected. The company has updated its TG-6 model with premium features that are aimed at the premium end. Raw shooting? Check. 4K video? Yes, it is. GPS? Yes. This model uses the same processing engine that the OM–D E-M1 X mirrorless models.

The camera can be used for both underwater and land-based photography thanks to its wide aperture lens at f/2 and many other close-focusing features. Olympus could have done more than what we saw in the TG-5. However, that was our prior top pick and is not too dissimilar to what we have now. The TG-5 is still a great choice if you have a limited budget. We are just wrapping up our review.

There are many reasons to buy

+5K video captures high quality detail+Improved Battery Life

Avoidable reasons

Unresponsive touchscreen-No 4K/120p slow mode

The Hero 9 Black is a powerful, versatile GoPro action camera that’s also waterproof. It’s no surprise that this is the best waterproof camera you can buy. While the Hero 9 Black’s predecessor may be more affordable, it has a 23.6MP sensor capable of recording 5K video and is an excellent choice for underwater recording. The Hero 9 Black is waterproof to 10m without the need for a housing. However, its slightly slow touchscreen makes it difficult to use underwater.

Instead, you can rely on the simple pair of rugged buttons to quickly input commands – an easy solution that actually makes it very user-friendly. The new front-facing screen makes it easier to frame in the waves and HyperSmooth Boost – GoPro’s strongest stabilization program – ensures that you get clear footage at sea. Although battery life has been improved, it is still quite average. 4K footage is not noticeably better than the GoPro Hero 8 Black. The GoPro Hero 9 Black is the best waterproof action cam. It’s smart, smooth, and easy to use.

3. DJI Osmo Action

A great alternative to the expensive underwater action cam

Specifications

Sensor: 1/2.3-inch, 12MP

Lens: 145o FOV, f/2.8

Waterproof: 11m

Shockproof: 1.5m

Monitor: 1.4 inch display (front), 2.25 inches touchscreen (rear).

Movies: 4K

User level: Beginner/intermediate

+Competitive video quality+Very good stabilization

Avoidable reasons

-Average low light performance-Slow-mo at only 1080

The slightly older DJI Osmo Action has specs that rival the GoPro Hero8 Black. However, it is a cheaper yet very capable underwater action camera. It is waterproof to 11m without the use of a housing, or 60m with a case. The solid metal shell wraps it in protection and ensures its durability. It is similar to the GoPro Hero 9 Black and has both front-and rear screens. Underwater photography is easy with the shortcut buttons.

The video itself is sharp, clear, and detailed. It can play at 60fps at 4K resolution, but 240fps slow motion is only available at 1080p. Although RockSteady’s image stabilization isn’t as smooth as GoPro’s HyperSmooth 2.0 it can still manage to smooth out waves and swells. Although low-light performance is not as impressive, it’s not unusual for action cameras. Battery life is also excellent. The DJI Osmo Action is a solid waterproof camera that can be mounted and has many accessories. It offers a lot of value for money.

Although you wouldn’t be able to tell from the outside, the XP140 is slightly more robust than its predecessor. It is almost indestructible. It’s dustproof, shockproof up to 1.8m, freezeproof to -10oC, and waterproof down to 25m so it can withstand even the most extreme snorkeling trips.

The camera’s internal changes are the most significant. The camera can now record 100fps slow motion in 720p as well as true 4K footage. However, the disappointing frame rate of only 15fps for 4K means that it is much more capable as a Full HD 1080p shooter. The maximum ISO has been increased to 12,800 to improve low-light performance. New subject and scene detection abilities are supported by a wider variety of in-camera filter options.

The XP140’s sensor is stable and back-illuminated so it can produce great underwater results. The large display also makes framing with goggles easy. Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth connectivity allow you to upload images from your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and an Instax Share printer.

There are many reasons to buy

+Built-in viewfinder+Waterproof down to 31m

The AquaVision algorithm can be enabled in the app. This will allow the Go 2 to filter footage to reduce haze and produce more vivid results.
