Asus is a well-respected manufacturer of consumer electronics. The Taiwanese company, which is also known for making motherboards and laptops, has tried its hand at wireless products. The BRT-AC828 is Asus’ only business router. It can handle more than 10 simultaneous connections, which is great for small businesses.

Although it’s excruciatingly costly, it packs all the features you would expect from a router. For example, an M.2 slot that allows you to plug in an SSD and convert it to a mini-NAS. You’ll find a lot more, including RADIUS support and the ability to combine four 1Gb Ethernet ports to create a virtual 4Gb network (there are eight Gigabit Ethernet ports all together). There is also support for LTE to increase resilience. The router already has two 1Gbps WAN port that can be used separately or aggregated.

It offers 4×4 MIMO, theoretical speeds up to 2.6Gbps and open plan coverage of up to 100m (albeit only on the 2.4GHz frequency). Trend Micro has partnered with Asus to offer AIProtection, a built-in security program.

There are many reasons to buy

+10G LAN SPF connectivity+802.11ad supported

Avoidable reasons

-Expensive-802.11ad is still not mainstream

Although technically the Nighthawk X10 router is a consumer model, it has features similar to the Asus model. It is as technically advanced than most routers in this list. It can reach 2600Mbps using 4×4 MU–MIMO. There are seven Gigabit LAN ports, and it has a high-speed rating of 2600Mbps. A pair of them can be combined to reach 2Gbps, and there is even a 10G Ethernet SPF+ connector to allow NAS access (assuming your device supports this technology).

You can see why the Netgear router is appealing to both businesses and consumers.

The most interesting feature is 802.11ad support. This is a low-range, high-speed connection that requires lineof sight. It is also known as WiGig and operates in the 60GHz band.

Amazon Cloud Drive is included as a 6-month subscription. This is an unexpected bonus that can be used for backup purposes.

There are many reasons to buy

+Easy to use web interface +Great hardware extras

Avoidable reasons

-Pricier than AC2600 routers -Not the fastest 802.11ac Router

The Synology RT2600ac is what you get when a traditional wireless router is combined with a network attached storage device (or NAS). It also gives you a little more. Although the company is most well-known for its NAS boxes, the RT2600ac offers a lot of features such as built-in VPN and the ability of aggregate two WAN ports.

Although it has only 4GB of storage, you can connect an additional hard drive to create your cloud service. This is similar to Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. A selection of NAS-grade applications, such as a VPN client or server, can be downloaded. The app selection is limited at the moment. There’s also a need for better community support.

Although it isn’t perfect in its setup and more complicated functions, the Synology RT2600ac router is still very accessible. This is Synology’s second attempt to create a router, so there are still many areas for improvement.
