Are you frustrated by your limited data plan? Do you commute underground? However, even if you have your reasons for going offline occasionally, that doesn’t mean you need to be bored without the internet.
Your iPhone/or iPad is a powerful gaming device. You don’t even have to be connected to the internet to use them. These iOS games are among the best available offline.
1. Alto’s Adventure
Alto’s Adventure will get you your skiing fix. Play as Alto, and you’ll be able to glide down the Andes while collecting coins and avoiding obstacles. Touch controls can be used to make Alto jump, grind, or perform tricks that will earn you points. Enjoy your Andean adventure from the comfort of your subway car. You can play the game even when you aren’t connected to Wi-Fi.
2. Alto’s Odyssey
Alto’s Adventure: Alto’s Odyssey 2 keeps all the great things about the original, but adds a bit more. The game feels more like an expansion, with new characters and locations, as well as a few new mechanics. Odyssey, which is more focused on extreme sports than Adventure’s collection, will still appeal to those who love Adventure.
3. Monument Valley
Did you ever see one of the impossible paintings by M. C. Escher? Would you like to explore it further? Monument Valley, an independent puzzle game using the Unity engine, is built around this idea.
Ro is a little girl that wanders through colorful buildings and solves intricate puzzles. Your primary tool is the ability to alter the screen’s view, which unlocks new pathways.
This game offers a unique experience that is both immersive and captivating. It can be played offline as well as stunning visuals. You might never use the internet again.
4. Monument Valley 2
You play Ro’s teenage daughter in Monument Valley 2, and you navigate the world to find her. While the basic concept is the same as before, the visuals are striking and the puzzle-solving is more nuanced. These are two of our favorite offline iPad games. The stunning graphics shine on a larger screen.
This game features four additional chapters and builds upon the original game’s features. The game replaces the Isometric Geometry art style of the first game in some worlds with more 2D scenes.
5. BADLAND
You’re a gooey, black ball who just wants to stay alive. BADLAND, a puzzle game with a lot of dangers and hazards, is challenging.
To keep your ball moving, use touch controls. Be aware of the spinning blades, sharp spikes, and other hazards that could cause it to be shredded. You can be made bigger or smaller by a variety of pickups around the globe.
The addictive gameplay will draw you in. It’s hard not to be captivated by the creepy music and gothic visuals that will keep you coming back. All gameplay can be played offline with the exception of the local multiplayer.
6. BADLAND 2
BADLAND 2 has some new mechanics. You can now move your character to the left or right. This eases the pressure. But the essence of the game has not changed. While there’s an option to play online multiplayer, the core of the game remains. However, it shines offline on an iPhone with headphones.
This innovative puzzle game is a cross between Sudoku and Tetris. The rules are very simple. There is a 7×7 grid that you need to fill with white balls or numbers one through seven.
Clearance happens when a numbered ball features the same number as its numbers in a column, row or column. Clearing it next to a white ball will result in the white ball cracking and breaking to reveal the numbered ball.
As in Tetris, the goal is to not lose the ball by having it go over the top. You can also earn points. It’s easy and challenging, yet it’s fun. You can also experience the leaderboards offline. It is a great game for waiting in line or riding on a train in an area that has no Wi-Fi.
8. Mini Metro
Mini Metro is another puzzle game that has a beautiful interface. It allows you to build your own mass transportation system. By using real-world maps, you can design your own lines connecting stations.
You only have a finite number of trains and lines, and a growing number of stations. So you must be careful where you place your items. People who wait too long at a station will lose.
The layout and maps look beautiful and are easy to read.
9. Civilization VI
Civilization VI, the latest installment in the epic world strategy game, is finally available on iOS. Civilization VI is the latest installment in the long-running series where you, as leader of your people, try to rule over the world throughout history.
Civ uses historical monuments and place names from the real world. Although it can take hours to complete, it is straightforward to play in short time slots. This makes it ideal for iOS.
While you can play online or local multiplayer, an offline campaign of AI is great for long commutes on the subway and plane.
You don’t have to like Civilization VI, because there are other ways to play Civilization on your phone.
10. Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley, another iOS and PC port, lets you run your farm in a small village. To make it easier, you can use gaming options such as Steam Link or Apple Arcade.
The game’s 8-bit graphics are stunning and the gameplay is simple and non-competitive. There’s even a dungeon-crawling mode that makes it one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a subway ride. Pelican Town is a great escape for city dwellers who are tired of the hustle and bustle. You can harvest pumpkins at your leisure.
