AirPods Connected but No Sound

Popular Posts

AirPods and AirPod Pros both have the same problem. They show up as connected, but they don’t make any sound.

If the AirPods don’t make a sound when connected, turn off your Bluetooth and then turn it ON again. Go to Settings > Bluetooth > Information > Forget This device. To re-pair, your AirPod, open the lid, and hold the button for ten seconds.

You can then reset your AirPods and then re-pair them. They should be able to connect success

Don’t panic if they don’t work yet. There are many proven ways to fix it. You can get your AirPods back to working by following the steps below.

Note – Although it is not known what caused this problem and Apple has not admitted it, it has been reported many times and occurs far too often for it to be considered an “expected behavior”. There are many proven solutions.

Reset Bluetooth

If your AirPods don’t sound but show connectivity, reset your Bluetooth.

This is the fastest possible solution and works about half of the time.

To reset your Bluetooth:

  1. Go to Setting
  2. Then select Bluetooth
  3. Wait 20 seconds before you toggle Bluetooth OFF.
  4. Next, toggle Bluetooth back ON
  5. Re-select your AirPods, and connect again

You can also swipe down on your home screen, then click on the Bluetooth icon to turn it grey (off). Wait for 20 seconds and then click on the Bluetooth icon to turn it blue (on).

You can continue to try this if it doesn’t work the first time. This problem can usually be fixed by simply forcing your phone to establish a stable Bluetooth connection.

Try resetting your AirPods if the sound doesn’t work.

Reset your AirPods

The fix is simple, but a little more complicated than setting your Bluetooth. This will work for approximately 90% of you.

To get started, you must “Forget This Device”. This is how you do it:

  1. Go to Setting
  2. Then select Bluetooth
  3. Next to your AirPods, click the info icon
  4. Select “Forget This Device”.
  5. This will remove your AirPods successfully from your phone

After your AirPods have been removed, it’s time to sync them again.

Follow these steps to repair your AirPods:

  1. Your phone must be enabled for Bluetooth
  2. Place both AirPods into the charging case. Open the lid
  3. Hold the button at the back of the AirPod charging case and press it until the status LED blinks white.
  4. Your AirPods should appear on your phone. Click “Connect”
  5. It will take some time for your AirPods to connect, but once they are connected you should be good to go.

To turn off your iPhone press and hold both the side and volume buttons simultaneously (older iPhones only require that you hold the side button).

The second way to reset your iPhone is to Reset the Network Setting. This will remove all connections from your iPhone and disconnect you from any active networks.

Resetting the iPhone’s network settings

  1. Go to Setting
  2. Scroll down to General
  3. Scroll down and select Reset
  4. Next, choose ” Reset Internet Settings“.

Updating iPhone software

iPhone software is continually being updated, improved, and fixed.

It’s possible that your AirPod’s Bluetooth connection is having issues if you have outdated or incompatible software.

Make an effort to update your phone as often as possible. Turn Automatic Updates on to make sure your phone schedules these updates at night while you are asleep.

  1. Go to Setting
  2. Scroll down to General
  3. Select Software update at the top
  4. Choose Automatic updates
  5. Toggle Download iOS Updates and Both Install iOS Updates
  6. Select Back to see if there are any updates
  7. If there is an update available, click Install Now

The most recent software will ensure that your phone works at its best. These are the best tools to avoid many problems.

Disable nearby devices

Turning off all Bluetooth devices near you is another possible solution. You can also turn them off.

You may have headphones, mice, keyboards, and other phones. It is possible for interference to occur in this area.

This can be avoided by turning off all devices.

You can also go to your iPhone to “Forget This Device” for each of the Bluetooth gadgets.

This step will ensure that there is no interference.

Clean AirPods and Charging Ports

Believe it or not, your AirPods may not be making any sound. This could be because of dirt, grime, and ear wax that has built up inside your charging port. Gross!

Begin by taking a Q-tip to gently clean the metal ring at the bottom of your AirPods. Next, open the charging case and clean the port. Be sure to reach the bottom.

To really clean your Q-tip, you can add some isopropyl alcohol at the end. Don’t worry, Apple approves!

Check the speaker on your AirPods while you’re at. The gunk can build up to the point that your AirPods are even less responsive.

AirPods Pro may require you to take off the tip in order to see if there is gunk on the speaker. Use a Q-tip for any earwax, dirt, or other debris.

It is helpful to have a flashlight or to use your phone’s flash to get a better view.

This issue can be resolved if you ensure that the charging connections are clean and the AirPod speaker/sensors are clear.

Automated ear detection should be disabled

AirPods come with technology that senses when they are in your ears. Once confirmed, your device will start receiving audio.

The tech is great, but if something goes wrong, the sound will continue to come through your headphones instead of your phone.

( Dirty headphones are the main reason this feature is activated. Make sure to clean them according to the instructions!

To see if this is the problem, I would turn off Automatic Ear Detection. Remember that your AirPods will continue to play even if you turn it off.

How to disable Automatic Ear Detection

  1. Go to Setting
  2. Then select Bluetooth
  3. You can view your AirPods’ information by clicking the Info icon
  4. Scroll down to toggle OFF Automatic ear Detection

Check to see if it has fixed your problem.

Charge your AirPods

Low batteries (e.g. 10% or less) can cause AirPods to go in and out and lose sound. They may also experience loss of microphone functionality. Even you can permanently reduce your AirPods’ battery life

AirPods that are close to death are almost useless. AirPods that are nearing their end are not enjoyable. What happens when they do finally die? It’s not easy to find them.

When Apple AirPods don’t charge, there is more to it than sound not working.

It’s vital to make sure your AirPods are fully charged to avoid any problems.

It’s not difficult at all – AirPods can charge from almost dead to fully charged in less than an hour!

Conclusion

AirPods may say that they are “connected”, but no sound will be heard. The problem can be solved in a number of ways.

  1. You can reset the Bluetooth on your smartphone by switching it on and off again.
  2. Use “Forget This Device” to reset your AirPods. Next, repair your headphones.
  3. Your phone should be turned off and then on again.
  4. Upgrade your phone’s OS to the most recent version.
  5. To avoid interference, turn off any Bluetooth devices within range.
  6. Clean your charging ports and AirPods
  7. Automated ear detection should be disabled
  8. Check that your AirPods have been fully charged

You’re most likely to solve the problem if you do each of these steps.
