You want the best AirPods Pro sound quality? These tips will help you get a better sound quality from your AirPods Pro.
Apple’s AirPods Pro headphones have been very well received so far. They are worthy rivals to wireless headphones of similar price. Some AirPods Pro users reported poor sound quality, low noise cancellation and disappointing bass while using them.
We’re here to help you get the best out of your AirPods Pro. We will discuss the best ways to increase the bass, adjust the EQ and improve noise cancellation in AirPods Pro.
These tips are also applicable to regular AirPods.
1. AirPods Need to Be Updated
You can improve the sound quality of your AirPods Pro by updating them. Apple occasionally releases firmware updates to the AirPods Pro in order to improve their sound quality. This is because the AirPods can automatically update firmware.
You can set your AirPods up to automatically check for and download firmware updates. Here are the steps to update your AirPods Pro firmware.
- Your AirPods Pro must be in their charging case.
- The case can be charged wirelessly or plugged in.
- Verify that your iPhone is connected to internet.
- Your AirPods Pro should be kept within reach of your iPhone or connected to it.

AirPods Pro should now automatically update. Their sound quality should improve depending on when the update is applied.
2. Turn Off Active Noise Cancellation
It is surprising that the best way to increase the sound quality of your AirPods Pro AirPods Pro is to disable Active Noise Cancellation. You don’t have to turn on Transparency Mode.
This may sound counterintuitive. You might think that noise cancellation would increase sound quality. Active noise cancellation actually lowers bass because of the intensive sound processing that takes place behind the scenes.
This is partly due to Apple’s Adaptive EQ technology within the AirPods Pro that automatically adjusts the EQ 200 times per second to ensure the best noise cancelling experience. If you listen to the earbuds while moving, all these small changes can cause a warbling effect or fluttering sound with high-end sounds.
This issue can be solved by disabling ANC and transparency mode when you don’t use them.
This is how to disable ANC on your AirPods Pro.
- To open Control Centre, swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone. If your iPhone has a home button, swipe up from below the screen.
- Press the volumebar for a long time. This should display an AirPods Pro icon.
- Tap Noise Control to select Off. This is the middle mode.
You can also long-press on the force sensor on your AirPods Pro (found at their stem) to switch between Noise Control modes. However, you must enable Off first. Follow these steps to do this:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth for your iPhone.
- Tap the I button beside your AirPods Pro.
- Tap Hold AirPods. Enable the Off Option. Repeat this process for the Right AirPod.
You can now enjoy a significant bass boost without ANC distortion to your music.
3. Do the Ear Tip Fit test
AirPods Pro may still sound unsteady if the included ear tips are not sealing your ears properly. There’s an easy way to determine which size (small/medium/large) works best for you.
Apple offers a software-based Ear Tip Test for your devices. This allows you to determine which ear tip size keeps sound from leaking into your ears the best.
To test the Ear Tip Fit Test, click here
- Connect your AirPods Pro with your iPhone
- Select Bluetooth from Settings.
- Tap the I button beside your AirPods Pro.
- Scroll down and tap Ear Fit Test. Then, follow the onscreen instructions.
- If the Ear Tip is not sealing properly, try switching to a larger size. It may be necessary to use a different size for each ear.
You’ll hear music playing during the test. This is part of the test to determine which ear tip produces the best sound. You should now be able to determine which size eartip is best for you.
4. Modify the EQ of Your AirPods Pro
Every person’s hearing loss is different. What might sound great to one person could be terrible to another. Apple offers Headphone Accommodations, which allow you to customize the equalizer (EQ), for your AirPods Pro.
These settings are especially useful for people with severe hearing loss. However, they can also be used by anyone who wants to increase the bass, high end or mids of the AirPods Pro to better match their hearing.
To ensure that the AirPods ProEQ is perfectly matched to your hearing, you can also take a hearing test.
This is how to edit the AirPods EQ app on an iPhone.
- Go to Settings > accessibility.
- Scroll down and tap Video/Audio.
- Tap Headphone Accommodations to enable the toggle at top of screen.
- You can now choose from three preset options to optimize the sound for Balanced Tone or Vocal Range or Brightness.
- You can also tap Custom audio Setup for a quick hearing test. This will allow you to customize your AirPods ProEQ based on the results. You can then choose Audiogram among the EQ options.
You might consider downloading Mimi hearing test (free) if you are having trouble choosing between the Apple hearing test and the Hearing Test . You can then link it to your Health app, and select the Audiogram results from Headphone Accommodation settings to customize your AirPods Pro’s EQ.
5. Spatial audio can be disabled or edited
Spatial Audio by Apple creates the effect that sounds are coming from all directions, including the traditional left and right directions.
Apple uses Dolby Atmos streams in streaming apps to achieve this effect, but it also has the Spatialize Stereo feature that creates the same 3D effect using stereo sources.
Spatial Audio is not able to reproduce every song. Spatial Audio can make some songs sound more distant, loose their punch, or even get muddy.
Apple’s dynamic head track feature makes sounds that sound like they are coming from your phone screen. This works well for watching movies, but it can be a bit annoying when listening to music.
To improve the sound quality of your AirPods Pro, you might want to disable both spatial audio and dynamic head tracking.
To disable Spatial Audio:
- To open Control Centre, swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone. If your iPhone has a home button, swipe up from below the screen.
- Press the volumebar for a long time. This should display an AirPods Pro icon.
- You can toggle the Spatial audio or spatialize stereo buttons that appear in the lower-right corner.
To disable dynamic head tracking:
- Go to Settings > accessibility for your iPhone.
- Scroll down to tap AirPods. Scroll to the bottom for the Spatial Acoustic Head Tracking section.
- To disable this feature, choose Off or Video Only . If you wish to use this feature with videos but not music, podcasts, or other audio sources, select Video Only .
6. Modify the EQ of Your Music App
You can adjust the equalizer settings depending on which music streaming service you are using to greatly improve the sound quality of your AirPods Pro. This is how you can do it with Spotify and Apple Music, two of the most well-known music streaming apps.
Spotify allows you to modify the EQ.
- Open Spotify.
- Tap the Settings button from the Homepage tab.
- Select Playback > Equalizer.
- You can try the presets to find what you like best. Most people recommend bass Booster to AirPods Pro users.
- Alternativly, drag the sliders at top of screen to adjust the EQ manually.
Apple Music EQ Modification:
- Go to the Setting app for your phone.
- Scroll down to .
- Choose EQ to be added to the list.
- You can choose the EQ setting that you prefer. If you have problems with the bass in your AirPods Pro, choose Increase Bass.
You should be able to increase the bass in your AirPods Pro or make any other adjustments to improve the sound quality. Everyone’s ears are different.
7. Improve the sound quality
Did you know that your music streaming app might not provide the best quality music? It’s possible to adjust these settings depending on the service you use.
We’ll be focusing on Spotify and Apple Music for now. You should also keep in mind that streaming services such as Tidal or Amazon Music HD offer super high-quality music for audiophiles.
How to improve the audio quality of Spotify Premium
- Open Spotify, and tap the Settings Icon.
- Select Music Quality.
- Choose Very High or High.
These steps will guide you through Apple Music to select the music quality that you want.
- Go to Settings > Music.
- Under Audio, tap Audio Quality.
- Select High-Quality from the MobileData Streaming menu. You can also enable Lossless Audio but it isn’t supported on AirPods Pro. This won’t affect your sound quality when you listen through them.
Your music will sound clearer after this setting change. This could have a negative effect on how much data Spotify uses or Apple Music. 160kbps (High Quality) and 320kbps(Very High Quality) are significant data differences compared to 96kbps. If you are looking to save data, consider changing it only while connected to Wi-Fi.
8. Charge your AirPods
Although it may seem obvious, many people forget to charge their earbuds after using them for long periods of time. Low battery can cause audio devices to lose their quality. If the sound quality is poor, make sure you have your AirPods Pro charged.
To prove that wireless charging is possible, let’s just say that you can tap the AirPods Pro case to check its battery status. It’s charging if it turns amber. It’s fully charged if it turns green.
You can easily track the AirPods Pro’s battery status by adding the Battery widget to the Home Screen.
- Tap and hold the Homescreen.
- In the corner, tap the Add (+) button.
- Scroll down to the widgets available and choose Battery.
- Select the widget size you wish to use, then click Add Widget to position it on your Home Screen.
- To check the battery level of your AirPods Pro, simply view Find that Widget whenever they are on.
You can now more easily track the battery of your AirPods so you can avoid low-power situations while still preserving their sound quality.
9. Buy Memory Foam Ear Tips
The silicone tips that Apple uses for its AirPods Pro are perfectly compatible. However, memory foam eartips might be the best choice if you want a better fit or a better bass response.
Memory foam is a material that is commonly found in mattresses. It has a soft, fluffy structure that adapts to your ears and keeps it from moving. There are many memory foam tips available for AirPods Pro, but we recommend these LICHIFIT memory foam tips.
You can fix the sound quality of your AirPods Pro by swapping for foam ear tips.
