Not all iPhones are compatible with “Hey Siri”.

When your iPhone 6S or later isn’t charging, “Hey Siri” can be used. This means that if your iPhone was released in 2015 or earlier, you can use “Hey Siri” only. These iPhones are equipped with low-power always-on microphones. They listen for the “Hey Siri”, hot word, and then jump to action when they hear it.

If you have an iPhone 6 or older, “Hey Siri” must be charged and plugged in. These older iPhones can’t be unplugged. You will not be able call Siri using your voice.

The tips below will help you fix your iPhone’s “Hey Siri” problem.

1. Check that “Hey Siri” is set up correctly

Before you move on, make sure that the “Hey Siri” feature is turned on. Here are the steps:

You can use Siri even if your iPhone is covered or facing down. To do this, visit Settings > accessibility > Siri. Enable the Always Listen to “Hey Siri” option.
